Former Players[edit]

The players in/out list could be changed to former players. Steven O'Dor also needs to be listed there.

Biggest loss[edit]

I'm not so sure that the LA Galaxy game should be down as a record defeat. I can't think of any other football record that would have friendly or exhibition scores down. If we follow this then surely Phoenix's record win is the NINE that they put by a team in a pre-season match? Dairyflat (talk) 03:51, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Creation[edit]

I was holding off on creating this article because not much is yet known about the club. It still hasn't been confirmed that it will be named "Wellington" or where it will play (the cake tin is a assumption, although 99% likely one). We should get citations for the statements made. -- Chuq 11:14, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will reference it tomorrow afternoon, hopefully. Daniel Bryant 11:26, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, now it has a real name, I trust the user who created the article (with a name that was always going to be temporary) will go and fix all the links to the old ones ... (it shouldn't be too bad, I think most of them are transclusions of {{AUS fb A-League}} which will refresh themselves as the pages get touched anyway) -- Chuq 14:08, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was only a few of these and I have taken care of them :) (Not that I created this page BTW) Tancred 08:52, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One of the Phoenix's nicknames is 'The Nix'? What a strange nickname. Also, 'Welly'? Who made these nicknames? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.109.215.34 (talkcontribs) 16:24, August 6, 2007.
'nix', short for phoenix. 'welly' short for wellington. they're not that strange surely? Dibo T | C 06:58, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
nix makes sense, but Welly? I know of no Wellington team ever called Welly. Yomcat 18:19, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The FFA forced the Phoenix to change their logo to fit in with the FFA's logo criteria. Here's the new one: http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/news-images/main-white_embossed_phoenix.gif Bongomanrae 23:42, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the old one still around somewhere? Just curious to see it... BroadArrow 08:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I may be wrong, but it was the same one as now but with wider wings. -CipherPixel —Preceding unsigned comment added by CipherPixel (talkcontribs) 02:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Player pictures[edit]

Does anyone have any connections at the club? Perhaps we could ask for some player pictures to be released into public domain so we could add them to the player profile pages? BroadArrow 20:25, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conor Stares[edit]

Who is he, and how did he get #16? He's not on the Phoenix page - http://www.wellingtonphoenix.com/default.aspx?s=wellfc_playerprofile Yomcat 23:43, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname[edit]

Welly is a nickname used for the Phoenix, and the town of Wellington. Similar to Wellington boots being called Wellies. Search Google for "Wellington Phoenix" and Welly and you get plenty of results showing people using Welly to refer to the Phoenix. And I do it myself, for good measure. So I'm putting it back in. Dibo T | C 01:55, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So I can add in Tards, Bling, Salty Dogs etc.? That Google link is useless. Most people are referring to the city, not the team. Yomcat 06:52, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've tried with little success to rally support from the yellow fever on this one, but Welly is a legitimate nickname, and unlike the others it's not intended in a derogatory fashion. I'm not a kiwi, but I gather that Welly is a pretty common nickname for both the city and the team. Dibo T | C 05:27, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welly is NOT a nickname used for Phoenix. You've been misinformed. Since the club's inception I have never once heard, or seen, the word Welly used in reference to it. Dairyflat (talk) 09:29, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Wellington, and have been to ever one of Phoenix's home game. Welly is not a nickname used for the team. -CipherPixel 30th April —Preceding comment was added at 02:35, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stripes[edit]

Wellington must play in stripes. Get rid of Reebok. --202.47.49.231 (talk) 03:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Former team in current team list[edit]

Irrelevant really? Has got nothing to do with the "current squad" CipherPixel (talk) 06:20, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current Squad Line Out[edit]

Ok, everyone ignored my above section, but I'd like to change that slightly, but I think the squads should be listed same as they are on the Man United page. (Same as most major clubs). CipherPixel (talk) 05:21, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not particularly going to disagree with you (I prefer the alternate, non-Man U version but agree with your reasoning) - however for the sake of consistency I feel this should be done only if the other A-League team pages follow suit. Since the other 7 teams currently use the alternate format, I've reverted the recent change to reflect this. Gialloneri (talk) 06:01, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Westpac Stadium dimensions[edit]

230 metres in length doesn't sound right to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.252.233.190 (talk) 01:24, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This should be looked at, as I think its the measurements for the entire stadium not the field as it says. http://www.westpacstadium.co.nz/key-facts/ CipherPixel (talk) 06:40, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

International caps[edit]

Both Barbarouses and Draper have senior international caps. Name[edit]

Surely the name should be "Wellington Phoenix F.C." (not FC) , the same as Arsenal F.C. or Manchester United F.C." Gloveman (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:33, 12 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]

The full name of the club is "Wellington Phoenix FC" while the full names of the clubs you mentioned are "Arsenal Football Club" and "Manchester United Football Club," hence the abbreviations
I assume you are right. Who the hell gave it such a stupid meaningless name then? Gloveman (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:32, 14 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]
When it's done in MLS it is because they want the club to sound more "authentic," and since it is the full name, everyone has to call them "Toronto FC" rather than just "Toronto." I would assume the motivation is the same in the A-League. -- Grant.Alpaugh 19:15, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bambang Pamungkas[edit]

is Bambamg Pamungkas in the Squad of Wellington Phoenix F.C. I heard that he went to trial out for Wellington PhoenixF.C Andy1890 (talk)

No, he when't home - either he wasn't wanted, or the offer wasn't good enough, I've heard that he would prefer to be a superstar back home than being on the back benches and not getting much game time in the A League, which is fair enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.193.144.2 (talk) 01:57, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Irrelevent Sections[edit]

After going through this article a few times i've noticed a lot of sections that seem very irrelevent. Transfers (Already shown in the current season section), Player awards & International Players (should be part of players pages as opposed to on the Wellington Phoenix home page surely?), and Seasons (Already shon at the bottom of the page and current season shown at the top). Another thing, maybe the records section could be simplified some how? The section seems to dominate the page so if there was some way to simplify this that would be great. I'll make some changes to the above mentioned but if there are any qualms then please feel free to revert and/or comment. Thanks. Pereirab04 (talk) 02:54, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reece Crowther[edit]

Does anybody know what the deal is with Reece Crowther? I understand he was on loan last season but does anyone know for sure (With a reference) that he has returned to the first team squad? Any help would be great, Thanks. Pereirab04 12:44 NZST —Preceding undated comment added 00:44, 20 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

This indicates that he has been released from the Phoenix. Camw (talk) 02:25, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just read this as well, looks like my research skills aren't quite up to scratch! Thanks for heads up - Pereirab04 (talk) 02:53, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics[edit]

I've noticed there is also a fully dedicated page to List of Wellington Phoenix FC records and statistics. I therefore don't see the point of having all the records on the main page at the bottom. Sure statistics seem relevent but the records have it's own page so what's the point in having it printed twice? It just seems to clog up a lot of the page at the moment. Any comments? Third Strip[edit]

Can someone please create the nix's black strip they wore against the melbourne heart on 28 january 2012, I'm not sure how too. these are some picks of the strip http://au.fourfourtwo.com/Gallery/288408,wellington-phoenix-v-melbourne-heart-pics.aspx Kiwispud (talk) 09:36, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Strip for 2013-14 Season[edit]

Is anyone able to create the new kits for the current season? I've tried to figure out how to do it several times but just can't seem to do it. I also can't find any tutorials to help out. O for Awesome (talk) 23:06, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Darije Kalezic Comment[edit]

Hi Simione001 just with regards to Darije Kalezic, wanted to discuss his nationality. He is classed as Bosnian-Swiss born and wasn't sure in Football do we use the place he was born or his Nationality. As his parents were guest workers in Switzerland when he was born, but they moved back to the Balkans, settling in Mostar when Darije was a child and that is his passport? NZ Footballs Conscience(talk)

The fundamental problem is the squad is backed by a reference which in no way supports the data. WellingtonPhoenix.com still lists Greenacre an Buckingham as coaches And Lia in the side. That is why WP:RS asks for 3rd party sources. The Wellington Phoenix app is almost up to date (doesn't at time of writing gave Kaludjerovic). Soccerway is considered WP:RS and could be used to reference it (also lacking Kaludjerovic, but give the a couple of days). Both Soccerway and the Wellington Phoenix App list Tongue, Wood and Marawa ss part of the squad. Tomorrow when I have time I shall be bold and add those players in and reference the squad to a proper source, because the current source is verifiably wrong. BTW, Youth players don't actually need a pro contract as such ClubOranjeT 11:26, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Louis Fenton[edit]

122.58.21.115, 222.155.166.231, Spartan devil. Just to advise you that Louis Fenton is indeed back with the Phoenix for the 2018-19 season, so please don't remove him again from the player list. [1]

Soccer competition[edit]

@NZFC: I added "(soccer competition)" after "A-League" because the A-League is an Australian competition and consequently WP:NCFIA applies. I did not change the first sentence in deference to the club being from NZ, but the competition itself is an Australian one and in Australia the term football is highly ambiguous. - Nick Thorne talk 02:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nick Thorne while I understand that, there wasn't football even in the sentence until you added it and it doesn't need to be added. It says A-League and if people want to click through to that they can see its a Soccer competition. By even adding in soccer or football, all you are going to do is adding to IP address that will be making reverts to what they like best. I feel it is best left as it was and doesn't need either added into the sentence. NZFC(talk)(cont) 02:52, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
