incorporating landmark law[edit]

West U. is going to be the first country to use this law and it would be near to incorporate it into the actual article, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do so without it not making too clunky or seem out of place. Any suggestions? Here is the link: March 24, 2008, 9:33PM West U. favors ban on cell phone use in school zones

Surrounded by Bellaire?[edit]

Isn't there a narrow strip of Houston separating the two? --NE2 17:23, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@NE2: Wow, I didn't notice this till now! No, the cities directly border each other. If you want I can show you maps from the U.S. Census Bureau and/or from municipal websites. WhisperToMe (talk) 09:42, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... seems like Google maps and the West U city maps do show the West U line extending not all the way to the railroad. I wonder what is legally the case... WhisperToMe (talk) 00:33, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
West U City Map and West U Zoning map shows the houses are covered by the city, but not the railroad track? 11:37, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
@NE2: Hmm... The U.S. Census map shows the railroad as being in Houston, sandwiched between West U and Bellaire. Interesting! WhisperToMe (talk) 12:16, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Harris County block book maps[edit]

Here are some block book maps from the Harris County government of the subdivisions of West University Place. See Talk:Sunset Terrace/Montclair, Houston for block books of that subdivision.

Index map with more of the West U area is here: http://books.tax.hctx.net/v041/AE1997_41-1_0223.jpg and http://books.tax.hctx.net/BlockBooksPDF/v041/AE1997_41-1_0223.pdf (part of the A.C. Reynolds Survey)

  • Volume XIV (PDF, JPG) says that Fairhaven is Volume 52, Page 85. College View Section 2 Done at the search says no images, but the map says it is Volume 56, Page 189.
  • (PDF, JPG) - Indicates the school site
  • A.C. Reynolds Survey, Volume 41, Page 17-6. PDF, JPG - Finally! It indicates where the heck Monticello is: Volume 59, Page 35!

Re: Fairview, I haven't located the one for West U. "Fairhaven" Done and "Monticello" say "No images could be found for the supplied account". I also haven't located Mathews Place. "Virginia Court" brings up the wrong images (for "Farwood" and "Vermont Place Townhomes". Done

Belle Court by block:

Bissonnet Place:

Cambridge Place (in both West U and Southside Place?):

College Court Place (partially in NW corner of West U and partially in Houston) Blocks in West U are: 1 (part), 2-10, 17-22 --- Blocks in Houston are: 1 (part), 11-16 (after 1, the blocks go from south to north, roughly, then around 13 the numbering goes east, then 14 the numbering goes south) NOTE: Some of the street names are outdated. What is indicated as "Childress" seems to be "Community" now (the parts still Childress are east-west while Community runs north-south) - What was "Syracuse" became "South Judson" and "Richmond Road" became "Bissonnet Street" - Wellesley was turned into Albans - The former Amherst/Bissonnet (north of Albans) seems to be Law Street...

College View (in the block books as "Collegeview" all one word) - Also note one of the links from the county goes to "Lum Terrace" instead

Preston Place (note many of the street names seemed like they were to be named after fruit and nuts, but the "Kirby Drive" and streets on the replat show the modern names) by block:

Quenby Court: Blocks 1-2: http://books.tax.hctx.net/BlockBooksPDF/v073/AE1997_73-2_0034.pdf and http://books.tax.hctx.net/v073/AE1997_73-2_0034.jpg - Evanston Addition and Tangley Terrace noted

Virginia Court by block - A search query for "Virginia Court" brings up the wrong images (for "Farwood" and "Vermont Place Townhomes") but the system correctly states Volume 57, Page 171. You can flip through the pages to find the correct page, and voila:
