Western Islands was never located in Appleton and was never owned by the JBS. Publiusohio (talk) 19:48, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Publiusohio is totally ignorant about this subject. At one time, he posted the following comment in the Wiki article about the Birch Society:

"Western Islands was never an official JBS publishing house. It was started by Larry McDonald and taken over later by G. Edward Griffin. Official JBS publishing entities include American Opinion, RWU Press, Belmont Pub. and JBS Press. Publiusohio (talk) 02:29, 2 July 2008

My reply to him was as follows:

Publius is disseminating falsehoods. Western Islands was incorporated in both Belmont MA (the original home base of the JBS) and in California. The California certificate of incorporation (#C1100573) reflects the following information:

  • Address: P O Box 8040 - Appleton WI.

This is the current HQ address of the JBS!

  • Agent for Service of Process = Charles R. Armour at 2627 Mission Street, San Marino CA.

Mr. Armour, at the time of incorporation, was a District Governor for the John Birch Society and one of its 5 highest paid employees. He subsequently became CEO of the JBS. The San Marino address shown on the incorporation certificate was, at that time, the west coast headquarters office of the John Birch Society!

Western Islands published ONLY material which conformed to the Birch Society's point of view -including, for example, "The New Americanism and Other Speeches and Essays By Robert Welch" and numerous titles authored by JBS members or endorsers such as Julia Brown, Hilaire duBerrier, Charles A. Willoughby, Robert Montgomery, Dan Smoot, and Alan Stang.

And, finally, lest there be any remaining doubt, please consult page 6, paragraph 2, of the December 1961 JBS Bulletin where Robert Welch discusses the "extension of our own publishing activities" which he said included "the publication of hardbound books under the name of Western Islands." Date Published: 1980 ISBN-13: 9780882792354. Ownership is a tricky thing, easy to disguise, control is what counts. Oh, I can find lots of books where it says Western Islands, Appleton.
