  • Oppose the move back to Whaddon Road: First of all - I didn't realise there was a "requested moves" thing as there isn't one on any other wiki, so sorry about that. Right, my reasons for opposing the move back. First, Whaddon Road is the common name for the ground, not it's actually not official. The official name was the Victory Sports Ground, from 1945 to a few days ago. Because of the new sponsor, the stadium has been officially renamed the Abbey Business Stadium, there is a link to the news on the official website. Whaddon Road like I said is the name we all use and how people recognise whose stadium it is, but it's not the official name. Officially official (gosh, I'm hating that word now...!). A redirect from Whaddon Road to Abbey Business Stadium will be fine, as nothing else is likely to be named Whaddon Road any time soon (if ever). Dave (talk) 01:12, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I know common names are used but even the Cheltenham website is now reporting on games at the ABS, not Whaddon Road. If there's a redirect from Whaddon Road, the top of the page of this article says that the ground is more commonly known as Whaddon Road, so surely there's no problem.   • The club are obviously going to refer to it by the sponsored name because the sponsors tell them to, so I'm not sure we can read anything into that. The local paper, however, refer to it as Whaddon Road..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 11:30, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Despite the assertion that official titles are used for sports arenas, this is not actually a consideration in our naming conventions. We should use the most common name, per WP:COMMONNAME, as it is not only the most recognisable name but means we don't have to constantly move articles around when sponsors change.   • I don't think stadiums will change that much in terms of names. This is the first name change for 65 years. We won't move to a new stadium soon either. Name changes are rare - so there's no problem with keeping it as the ABS. Dave (talk) 20:47, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support the move back to Whaddon Road. Mainly per Bettia as the common name for the ground. Keep a redirect from ABS by all means. Think it is hilarious they are now trying to brand it a stadium - far too grand a monicker for the dear old place, but then again I never quite got over them knocking down the Wyman's Road terrace and building that horrid stand. FWIW Jeff Stelling and Radio 5 Live are both still calling it Whaddon Road Nancy talk 17:04, 28 April 2009 (UTC) (Robin in exile in Berkshire)[reply]

Unless there's reason to believe that Whaddon Road the street is likely to get an article at some point, there is no need to disambiguate away from the common name by sticking "stadium" on the end. The current title is different in that sponsored stadia are typically referred to by the whole title, i.e. KC Stadium, Ricoh Arena et cetera.
