The result was boldly close. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 23:46, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Wildlife conservation (US centric) and Game preservation (UK centric) deals with the same topic. They should be merged and the article globalized. --NJR_ZA (talk) 04:35, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Not quite. It is notable enogh to have its own article. It have new linked it here. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 23:46, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

I can help!

Looks like this page needs some work! I'm finishing off my masters in wildlife conservation and management. Once it is finished next month, I'll seeh if I can make some improvement. In the mean time, are there any topics anyone would especially like to see? Foxi tails (talk) 03:40, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Recent contributions and what is still needed

I've added some info to this article, but there is still much to be done to improve the quality.

  1. I've expanded the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation section, since previously only 3 of the 7 tenets were mentioned, and provided more direct resources. Now that it takes up a significant portion of the Wildlife Conservation article, it may warrant its own article, with only a quick summary of the significance and tenets in this article. (and would improve the worldwide view of the article I have moved most of the info to North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. --Animalparty-- (talk) 22:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
  2. The section Major threats to wildlife still needs a cleanup.
  3. The section Wildlife conservation as a government involvement needs a total rewrite for clarity and flow: it starts with the Government of India, then goes into IUCN, UNEP, FAO, and then a list of strategies that need better sourcing and context.
  4. The section Non-government involvement uses too many direct quotes, and I don't understand why the complete excerpt of a federal government (Foreign Assistance Act) is needed or relevent here. Furthermore, it is only applicable to the United States, which may be one more reason the Non-worldwide view banner was placed.
  5. The section Active non-government organizations might be better placed under the previous section, and in the interest of equal time, the synopses should be dropped.

Could use more about current methods in wildlife conservation

I think this article could benefit from a section on current methods in wildlife conservation and how the threats outlined above are addressed. I have started a section on wildlife monitoring which is not yet complete. The overarching section could also include legislation and field methods to monitor and prevent poaching, overexploitation, etc. Ecologyatx (talk) 18:16, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

Wildlife and it's conservation

Wildlife and its Conservation:-

wild life refers to the undomesticated animals living in their natural habitats ( forests , grasslands and deserts ) an area without human habitation . They are needed for maintaining biological diversity . It also helps in promoting economic activities that generates revenue through tourism , Conservation of forest and wildlife is interrelated with each other .

Decline in Wildlife Population:-

Wildlife of India is a great natural heritage Exploitation of wildlife resources has decreased global wildlife population by 52 % between 1970 and 2014. Over exploitation and shrinking of forest cover areas has resulted in animals becoming extinct , some are threatened and some are on the verge of extinction . In recent years , increase in human encroachment has posed threat to India's wildlife .

Aims of Wildlife Management:- The main aim of wildlife conservation are : To control and limit exploitation of species . To preserve the plants and animals from extinction . ) Maintenance of threatened species and protect species which are on the verge of extinction . Preserve the endangered species . To study the ecological relationship of the plants and animals in natural habitat . Hunting and poaching should be prohibited . Establishment of National parks , Wildlife sanctuaries , protected areas and Biosphere reserves .

The Wildlife protection Act was established in 1972. The provisions of the act are Prohibit killing and hunting of specified animals. Constitute sanctuaries, national parks, and closed areas for wildlife conservation. Special schemes for preservation of endangered species. Constitute Central Zoo Authority and recognition of zoos. Restrict, regulate or prohibit trade in wild animals and products obtained from them.

Jim Corbett National Park was the first to be established in 1936 in Uttarakhand, India. There are 15 biosphere reserves in India. The Nilgiris is a biosphere reserve in Tamil Nadu.
