[Untitled][edit]

I have fleshed out William Boyd's biography, cleaned up the novels/screenplay section, added a literary analysis section for his novels, as well as a bibliography for all his written work and provided some plot summaries with relevant sources and external links. Can anyone upload a photograph of the author? I don't know how to do this Ivankinsman 12:29, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I went into the toolbox to upload a photo taken from the www.williamboyd.co.uk website. Can an editor ensure this appears on this article page? Ivankinsman (talk) 19:01, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
O.K. I have now completed the makeover of the William Boyd article which has taken a lot of time and effort but I believe this now presents a comprehensive profile of the author and his work. Ivankinsman 07:34, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there no reference to the subject's wife Susan (?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rustygecko (talkcontribs) 12:33, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem removed[edit]

One or more portions of this article duplicated other source(s). Infringing material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Yoenit (talk) 16:04, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

revdel back to 24 april 2007. Yoenit (talk) 16:04, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Did it? Can you point us in the direction of the plagiarised material so that we can separate and restore non-plagiarised material? Ivankinsman seems to have introduced a lot of potentially copy-vio material (a quick Google trawl of some phrases confirms this), but he's not been the only editor since 2007 (I think even I've made the odd edit), so an unqualified rollback may not be ideal. William Boyd Profile
Can I ask why you removed most of the information I wrote in the article as the profile of William Boyd? What is left now is simply basic information that reveals very little about this author. I am extremely disappointed that all this work - over which I spend a very long time researching - has simply been removed at your own individual, subjective whim. Also, why did you take off the youtube links - these are all specific to the author and are relevant to his life and the writing of his novels?
You - Yoenit - have made no effort to ascertain what is plagiarised material here. Instead you have just taken a 'broad brush approach' stating that everying is plagiarised. I am sick and tired of editors like you who make no creative contricution to Wikipedia articles but instead take some kind of malicious pleasure in removing other contributors' work at one stroke with an unqualified rollback. Please let me know how this decision can be appealed, as Plumbabo suggests above. Ivankinsman (talk) 09:40, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
As I see the notice above does not mention the source, it was http://www.contemporarywriters.com/authors/?p=auth17 and a lot of material was copied directly from there. The article was subsequently expanded, but the sections remained a derivative work (and thus a wp:copyright violation). If something could have been saved I would have, but unfortunately that was not the case. With regards to the youtube links, I believe they violated wp:youtube, but if you disagree just say so and we can take it to the external link noticeboard. Biographical article on William Boyd[edit]

This is one of the best articles so far on WB's life and works:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/9051600/The-master-storyteller-William-Boyd-interview.html

I am looking forward to reading 'Waiting for Sunrise'. Sebastian Faulks has also written a novel with a similar pyschiatric theme. As much as I think 'Birdsong (novel)' is a brilliant novel, 'Human Traces' unfortuately is not as it goes into far too much turgid detail about psychiatric theory.

Bibliography[edit]

I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section using cite templates. Capitalization and punctuation follow standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, as much as Wikipedia templates allow it. ISBNs and other persistent identifiers, where available, are commented out, but still available for reference. This is a work in progress; feel free to continue.
