Tenure at Portland State[edit]

The statement that Hamilton was "dean of arts & letters" at PSU is not entirely correct -- unless he held that post at the end of his time there. I know because he was my advisor in the University Scholars' Program there; I graduated from there in 1980. He was a full professor & part of that Program. (IIRC, the University decided to hire him based on his fame/notoriety, & needed to put him somewhere. The Scholars' Program was perhaps the one place he'd gather the least amount of heat from unhappy peers & outside critics.) Far as I know, he did not handle any administrative duties. That's about the only error I can see in the LA Times article, so I suspect the reporter mush have misunderstood his source. -- llywrch (talk) 19:35, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
