Genealogical research[edit]

I looked him up on FreeBMD, assuming that he was no younger than twenty in 1947, and found the following potential matches (there were three born before 1927 but the third would have well into his nineties by 1989) -

William R Headley birth registered June quarter of 1920 in Mile End district, mother's maiden name Gardner. This William seems to be the one found in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007. He was born 19 March 1920 and died in Havering in 2003. The record gives his middle name as Robert.

William R Headley birth registered June quarter of 1922 in Rochford district, mother's maiden name Horspool. According to the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007, this William was born on the 8th of April and died in 2003 in Chichester if it is the correct one. The record gives his middle name as Robert.

I think the William Robert Headley this article is about is one of these two.
