Comment[edit]

There appears to be a bio cut-and-pasted into this article, leading me to suspect a copyvio. I haven't checked launch or anything, and I was going to flag it, but this article needs some attention anyways, so hopefully whoever finds the time can check on this issue.--Rockero 21:38, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yep - almost the whole article is a complete cut and paste copyvio from [1]. I removed the copyvio-ed info - AKeen 07:12, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article states that Willie Colon was born "to Puerto Rican parents". By way of clarification, both of Willie Colon's parents were born in New York City. However, all four of his grandparents were born in Puerto Rico. Netady 01:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Willie Colón first singer, Anthony Vaszquez was not killed. After he was replaced by Hector he turned to religion and became a Pastor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.20.149 (talk) 21:43, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sales[edit]

What is meant by Colón holds the record for all time sales, creating 40 productions that have sold over 30 million records worldwide? Because Johnny Cash has sold over 90 million already as well, or do they mean sales per album/work/song/...? 84.197.141.55 (talk) 19:12, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updates Needed[edit]

This article is in need of servere updating. There is much more to his histroy and his impact on Salsa. Willie is one of the pioneers of the genre. More should also be emphacised on his involvement with the Fania All Stars. Also, a picture is also something that the article is lacking as well.Kcuello (talk) 16:26, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

www.williecolon.com/bio.htm Has a great deal of information and many pictures that can prove useful to the updating of this article. I am in the process of contacting the webmaster for permission to use the pictures.Kcuello (talk) 16:29, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As my office has stated many times before we are willing to provide photos and information much of which has been verified by [2] (The Internet Movie Database)They are meticulous in their vetting process and have checked out every credit we have submitted. There is a section which is dedicated to my work in Television and film which is not widely known by the public and would be a relevant and worthwhile contribution to fans, information seekers and yours truly.

++ Colon claims to hold the "all time record for sales,(in the Salsa Genre) [having] created 40 productions that have sold more than thirty million records worldwide

Willie Colón has composed over one hundred songs, many have become standards like La Murga, Che Che Colé, Todo Tiene Su Final, Sin Poderte Hablar. As an arranger he has made many songs hits through his innovative spirit and adding string and choral sections to Salsa charts. Two great examples are Hector LaVoe's trademark hits, Tite Curet's "Periodico De Ayer" and Ruben Blades' "El Cantante". These songs became popular at time of release and still endure as standards.

As a Producer Colón is not afraid to experiment and has brought in talent from other genres like Blood Sweat & Tears' trumpetist Lew Soloff, the great Jorge Dalto, George Benson's pianist, Cuatro virtuoso Yomo Toro or Swedish rock guitarist George Wadenius. Hector LaVoe and Ruben Blades' most succesful recordings were produced by Willie Colón.++

You may want to take a look at WP:RS which outlines what a reliable source is. IMDB is not generally used as a reliable source on Wikipedia as it consists primarily of user submitted content with minimal editorial oversight (much like Wikipedia). Personal testimonies are also not reliable sources. What we are looking for are third party publications known for editorial control, this would include some magazines, many newspapers and some websites and TV shows. Print sources are completely acceptable so feel free to reference them. As for the images, my suggestion would be for the owner of the images to upload them to Wikipedia using the "Upload file" tab in the toolbox on the left. Keep in mind that in order to do this the owner of the images must relinquish claims to ownership of the image and release them to the public domain permanently. Let me know if you need any clarification. --Leivick (talk) 19:16, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone ahead and added citation needed tags to many of the unverified facts in the article. In my opinion the first step towards improvement would be to find citations from third party sources to verify this information. --Leivick (talk) 19:28, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link to fania, I will add it to the article, however Personal contact information is not a reliable source please take a look at WP:RS. I would also recommend taking the phone numbers off this page as it may result in unwanted attention. --Leivick (talk) 06:25, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
