dear sirs: i take exception to the so called nickname for my hometown........(sodom) it is inappropriate, not funny, and wrong.........i hope you will edit it out.......thanx

I am sorry it is so called - I could think of other places that might have been so-called, but it is an historical fact that Winschoten has been called it. As a child I lived in Winschoten with many pious folk and visited church twice every Sunday. So I was very surprised to learn the nickname, but my family confirmed it was so - so I suppose it must stand. Thankfully no one has been turned to a pillar of salt (yet). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Winschoter (talkcontribs) 09:22, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is the official nickname of Winschoten and should not be removed.

In aid of the previous commenters I can confirm this is the actual nickname for the town. I was born and raised there and we were proud to be called 'sodommers'. I do have a comment on the article though: It's position in the current "Oldambt' is mentioned more than once, which is a bit redundant. Instead perhaps a reference to it's historical position in Reiderland should be mentioned, as this is how the region was called before and is still referenced in many local names.94.214.169.209 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:05, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
