This picture is not of Wiremu Kingi Te Rangitaake —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.88.90.57 (talk) 06:42, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. The image is at [1] and appears to be a different Wiremu Kingi, from the east coast. BlackCab (TALK) 02:55, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Macron[edit]

I have searched in vain for any online uses of Wiremu Kingi's name with the macron. Was this page move necessary? BlackCab (TALK) 09:37, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First of all I'm not an expert in Māori language, but the word "kīngi" in Māori language terms doesn't seem to exist without the macron, what most people are used to is the anglicised version of the word that doesn't bother with it. The Maori Dictionary shows the macron as part of the word - http://maoridictionary.co.nz/search?idiom=&phrase=&proverb=&loan=&histLoanWords=&keywords=kingi. The NZ History biography of Wiremu Kīngi also includes the macron - http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/people/wiremu-kingi-te-rangitake. I think many internet references don't use the macrons for Māori words because historically they haven't been bothered with it, not because it was the right way to spell.Rudolph89talk 05:17, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
