Untitled[edit]

what kinds of ecosystems are presented at the woodland park zoo? which ecosystems seemed the most diverse? or endangered? also what do you think about zoos in general?

Map[edit]

It would be wonderful if somebody could plot Woodland Park on a map of Seattle. That would be an ideal graphic for the info box. ForrestCroce 06:22, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Elephant Care Controversy[edit]

The Woodland Park Zoo has received criticism for its care of its elephants.

In the past, there has been a visiting elephant which has conflicted with the social order of resident elephants of the zoo. Just recently the baby elephant Hansa died of unknown causes.

To clarify, no one says that the zoo is cruel to the elephants, but the criticism is that Woodland Park Zoo's facilities, while far superior to the standards of other zoos, are still deficient in meeting the needs of elephants, and they would be best taken care of on an animal preserve.

That should be in there, it's big news in the Seattle area. I also made a minor edit to include the current Maasai controversy. Hill of Beans 17:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but sadly, the elephants were removed and died soon after transportation. Now there are Greater One Horned Rhinos in their place.

Willawong Station[edit]

There is a claim in the article that Willawong Station is among the most popular zoo exhibits. This needs verification. Paddyslacker 17:04, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Australia or Australasia?[edit]

Which is preferred? The Zoo's maps and website call this exhibit Australasia. I think this is more correct than Australia as Australasia refers to a geographic region rather than a political region. What's the consensus? Paddyslacker 04:04, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor overseeing the acquisition[edit]

Says mayor Wood on this page. Other sources (including mayors of Seattle list on Wikipedia) suggest it was his successor mayor Hume 97.126.73.199 (talk) 23:44, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
