This article needs some serious attention[edit]

I Started wikifying this article today, but should have read it all first. The subhead 'The Parish of Wookey in a Nutshell' has all been taken, presumably verbatim, from "The Parish Of Wookey - A New History" by Hasler & Luker. Published by the Wookey Local History Group. There is some good information, and some less so, but I guess it needs reworking to avoid copyright problems, and adding references.

Also, in the lead, it says "Wookey was a coal-mining village on the Somerset coalfield and birthplace of the trade unonist A.J. Cook." A coal mining village? Can anyone confirm this before I delete it? It may come from A. J. Cook (trade unionist) which is unreferenced. I guess one shouldn't believe everything they read on WP:) Derek Andrews 10:45, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There were certainly coal mines fairly nearby see Somerset coalfield, but I don't have a record specifically relating to Wookey. Re: copyright you should tag the article to report it see:Wikipedia:Copyright problems. — Rod talk 11:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"I guess one shouldn't believe everything they read on WP:)" - there is a perfect example of that in another Somerset article, but I'm not telling you where because you will delete it, and having it there is so much fun! Anyway, back to this article. I would give serious consideration to ripping out most, if not all, of the Parish in a nutshell section and replace it with things that are known from other sources. It will make the article more of a Stub, but that is better IMHO than what we have right now. Don't put up the copyright tag as that simply passes the problem of what to do elsewhere. Remember WP:Bold - we are the Somerset wikiproject, we should solve the problem. --Cheesy Mike 11:45, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I know nothing of all this Wiki stuff and have just found this nonsense, I comment as follows: I am co-author of The Parish of Wookey - a New History ISBN 0 9530166 0 9. The "Nutshell" article was written by us at the request of the then parish clerk, developing a web site for the parish council. Its authorship should have been acknowledged. There was no mention of coal mining in Wookey in the original. A J Cook was born in Wookey parish. And why all this is under "Geography" is beyond me. Brian Luker

Brian, Thank you for your comment but I don't understand the issue. The Nutshell article is discussed below - in the section called copyright, but I can't find it in this article. If it were cited I would agree that its authorship should be recognised. The article mentions that A. J. Cook (trade unionist) was born in the parish - we do need to add a citation for this. There is currently no "Geography" section. If you would like to say specifically what the issues are we can try to address them or of course you could edit it yourself.— Rod talk 08:51, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the history of the article, it appears that a copyright violation including the text of The "Nutshell" was added by 172.209.110.78 on 3 April 2007 with this edit. This was detected and commented out by Derek Andrews on 25 October 2007. It appears to have been added back in User:Sujackman on 20 August 2008 with this edit and removed by User:Angela on 2 September 2008.— Rod talk 09:25, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

Please note all you wikifyers the article The Parish of Wookey in a Nutshell that you have removed was not subject to copyright as it was put on with the permission of the authors of the The Parish of Wookey - A New History, did you ask them before you removed it! The following article was written by and published with the consent of Brian Luker and Joan Hasler the authors of "The Parish Of Wookey - A New History" and is NOT a copyright violation. As is it relating to the History of the Parish of Wookey it would not be appropriate to move it to Wookey Hole as suggested. If you have any queries then please contact me. I have reinstated this article. Sujackman (Wookey).

They need to release it under the GFDL - not simply give permission for its use on Wikipedia. If you have any contact details for them, please could you ask them to send this declaration of consent to permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org? Thanks. Angela. 09:58, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
