Talk:World championships in sailing

I love it how you feel a consensus isn't needed to create a page that uses other people content in place where they never wanted it. You also feel a consensus is needed to make it factually correct which is all my update did. This whole subject is covered by International_Sailing_Federation#Events so this article has no relevance in my opinion. You are aware of this page which if you felt this was the way to go could have been developed List_of_World_Championships_medalists_in_sailing. It is misleading to suggest that ISAF organise class world championship or that there are only 15 World Championships when there are well over 150 title it is also strange to include the Tornado and Laser 4.7 neither of which are Olympic if you don;t want the other Class World Championships. The nine championships highlighted in yellow are not those of the 8 Olympic classes, but those that assign titles at the world championships which are held every 4 years since 2003. Let's not fight, please fill in the section "others championships" with the table that you put first. But there not held ever four years almost ever class at the Worlds holds other World Championship away from that event in that year. The Tornado wasn't in the last sailing world championships and probably never will be the Elliott we have already discussed. Sorry about my tone that update took a long time and I can't see why you undid it or what consensus you think was needed. I don't like the term main championships as this undermines other World Championships. I would prefer you seperate this into three Section I don't dare do it :-) One for Olympic Disciplines at the top one for ISAF Iniated Worlds and one for the Class Worlds a bit like the ISAF page. Multiple classes medalists

The trouble is the data doesn't exist for people that have medaled it doesn't even exist for World Champions there is no definative list. A females list, a displine list and a multi class list would be interesting but I think it is more important to get the medalist onto the class page. I don't like seperate pages as they are less likely to be updated. (talk) 19:38, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

There probably is a critical number (it is most likely to be 5 or 6 cause it's big enough to be extraordinary to be well covered and small enough to be achievable). It wouldn't be a separate page it would perfectly fit this one. This list wouldn't need to be updated often. It would just be a list of people who have medaled in lets say 5 and more classes. We just need to find that critical number for which we are 100% certain (someone who is deep enough into this matter) we have information. 3 in my previous post would definitely be too low but that is not even interesting if you have people who medaled in 15, 10, 8 classes. Multiple World Champions

It says that list is not complete even for 8+ champions. I don't know what is wikipedia's policy but due to the fact that it is very old sport and crazy number of classes, it is hard to look for information individually and it is easy to overlook. So I was wondering why not ask for help via official mail from big (succesful) sailing federations (no point in asking Congo, even if they have one)? You could ask them for the list of the world champions from their country with at least 5 titles -don't see the point in anything lower considering how many have more, while at the same time cooperation would be more possible cause you wouldn't ask them for too much. France and Italy have a incomplete database and AUS and USA publish a list on there website. The biggest is World Sailing which has a database of 4000 worlds events. http://www.sailing.org/regattasearch.php Although I note that not even this is being presently updated with winners outside the Olympics. Multiple World champions
