Image[edit]

Why is the original cover featuring the Wrecker's first appearance such a bone of contention? Good enough for the other characters. Asgardian 09:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted back to the previous image that was being used. It is larger, depicts the subject more clearly, and shows the subject alone without other figures. --GentlemanGhost 21:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As per the WikiProject Comics editorial guidelines, it is not required that the image in the Superhero box be from a comic book cover. In fact, the preferred source is promotional art. That is not the reason I have reverted the image, however. According to the guidelines, "the ideal image is a full-body, three-quarter picture of the character standing straight with no background". Also, "pictures which have more characters and/or objects than the subject of the article should only be used if the subject is the most prominent object - editing the picture, by cropping, obscuring and/or painting out the other characters may help to ensure this". Whereas I don't dislike the Thor cover, I don't think it meets these criteria quite as well. To really see the Wrecker clearly, you have to click on the picture to view the enlarged version. True, but a cover always lends a certain context a solo image cannot.

However, context is not what is desired for the main image for the comic book character articles. What is favored is an unambiguous, clear depiction of the subject. Context is more useful for the seconday images (if any) that are used to illustrate a point within the article. --GentlemanGhost 22:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Lifted from a Marvel site" is not the issue. All the images are "lifted" from Marvel. The important thing is to establish fair use. DCIncarnate's new image still satisfies the SHB guidelines better than the Thor cover. --GentlemanGhost 17:41, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
