Redirect from "Silfield"[edit]

I have redirected Silfield to Wymondham, if anyone could provide information about Silfield, which is a village that has merged into Wymondham, I believe, it would be good as I have been unable to find much information on the internet about it.

Theres not much really to Silfield (I live in Wymondham myself) except for the jokes about it being the wrong side of the train tracks. ;) It's a small place.

I'm not sure exactly where Silfield starts these days and Wymondham ends? I think the name comes from South field just as we have a North fields in Wymondham and a West Wood. I'll see if I can dig up some history. Witanofnorfolk 12:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Bryson[edit]

Two things: firstly, if Bryson lives in Wramplingham, not Wymondham, shouldn't his name be moved to the latter page? Secondly, directly related to the first, I feel awkward having him listed as a resident of Wymondham when the village's population is so small. Privacy goes out of the window there. The town names history[edit]

I think a small section on Wymondhams town name history would be good. I believe the original Anglo-Saxon name was Wigmundhamm i.e. Wigmunds Homstead. I am a littl familiar with the old English language and know that g is sometimes pronounced as y so that may explain how the name has morphed into Wymondham, I'll see if I can find any concrete information on the name we can use? Moot Hill[edit]

The material put under this sub heading appears to be a verbatim wholesale cut and paste from an archaeological report of the landmark. This does not fit well with the Wikipedia format and contains references better converted into footnotes. Complete re-write[edit]
