Response[edit]

The English sources don't immediately demonstrate notability to me, most of the available coverage are rehashes of press releases. If there is independent WP:SIGCOV available in Chinese, then it could be good to point those sources out. Otherwise it might be preferable to expand the section on ByteDance#Xigua_VideoThjarkur (talk) 13:02, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Thjarkur: Thanks for looking into this! It's true that some of the coverage is derived from press releases, but several of the sources I cited are legitimate WP:SIGCOV, like the articles from SCMP, China Film Insider and KrAsia.
Your point about Chinese media is well taken, though. There are dozens of examples of WP:SIGCOV in Chinese, but I hesitated to add them because of the language barrier and because it's sometimes difficult to discern which Chinese outlets are considered WP:RS. Here are some Chinese-language articles from over the years that appear to be strong sources to me (all significant coverage, no passing mentions): [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]. There are also numerous Chinese sources cited in the article on Chinese Wikipedia.
Do you know of any experienced Chinese-speaking Wikipedians who would be willing to evaluate the notability of Xigua Video in light of all the coverage in Chinese-language media? Thanks, JatBD (talk) 14:53, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Chinese coverage does look decent and appears sufficient for demonstrating notability (judging from a Google Translate). I don't have permission to move the article to mainspace since there's a redirect in the way, would suggest adding {{subst:submit}} to your draft. – Thjarkur (talk) 17:54, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Thjarkur: Would it make sense to post at WP:RM/TR? It seems like a shame for the draft to sit for up to 4 months at AfC when the only thing holding it back is a technical barrier. JatBD (talk) 13:08, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
