Internet criticism of Xinwen Lianbo[edit]

There are a number of comments which have spread throughout Chinese internet forums:
Purpose of Xinwen Lianbo:

  1. Part 1, 10 minutes - The government is working hard.
  2. Part 2, 10 minutes - The people are happy. Progress is occurring.
  3. Part 3, 10 minutes - People within overseas nations are unhappy. Disasters are occurring in the United States.

I am unsure whether forums can count as "sources", however. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs 03:34, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CCTV's 30th anniversary special[edit]

While I was searching for older videos of Xinwen Lianbo on Baidu for purposes of comparison in order to improve this article, I stumbled into this video (in Chinese), celebrating the newscast's 30th anniversary back in 2008. I'm inclined to believe that from that special shown on CCTV-新闻/13, the following perhaps can be concluded:

  • The date of first broadcast is December 15, 1978 on two grounds:
    • The opening credits contain the text 《这一天,见证中国的改革》("This day, [we] witnessed China change") and 《这一天,纪念改革开放三十年特别节目》("This day, [we] commemorate thirty years of opening to the world in this special program").
    • 张泉灵 (Zhang Quanling), the presenter of the special, stated that Xinwen Lianbo started celebrating its anniversary yearly starting December 15, 1998 (20 years later).
  • The opening billboard has changed a few times over the last 33 years. At around 1:57 in the video, the 1984 OBB is shown, which does not use the spinning globe that has been used since the early 1990s. Another OBB pops up in the video as well, showing the text 新闻联播/Xinwen Lianbo superimposed on a red map of China on a grayish-black background.

My Chinese is not the best so far, but based on what I gathered, the following seems correct. If there's anything else that should be concluded, please feel free to add. And while I want to be bold, I'll hold off since I'd like to get other opinions first, especially from people who speak better Chinese than me. :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 16:30, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Now I need to think of whether or not I will add the information in, or for that matter, how to add it in. :P --Sky Harbor (talk) 04:08, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • IF I were you, I would start a new section of "History" and take it slowly from there. BTW, I think the lead sections looks in need of a rewrite as well. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 12:07, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

International??[edit]

Has someone dreamt up the "international" section? This newscast is certainly not carried on CNN, BBC, NHK, Fuji TV and all those US stations. They might have evening news programs, but to suggest they are international versions of CCTV's evening news is ridiculous. It seems the entire section should be deleted.

Why use traditional Chinese?[edit]

Since it began in 1978, I think it have never used traditional characters. What is the reason for Wikipedia to put traditional characters in the article? If no one knows, I'll edit it. Thanks.--Zhantongz (talk) 22:15, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Network News?[edit]

I have the European version of CCTV 4 and it gives me the English title of "Network News" on my EPG. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.155.2.87 (talk) 13:46, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Criticized for not being neutral in the introduction[edit]

What kind of biased information is that? Please tell me any state television news program which is "neutral". News can't be neutral by its nature. Selecting information supporting one side is common practice in Western media. But this basically implies that China is a "dictatorship" and Western countries are very "neutral" with their news. --2.245.84.38 (talk) 21:50, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
