Citations, citations, citations[edit]

Significant Errors[edit]

Blame Yamaha and Escort. RX-100 was first used in certain markets for the variant of the RS-100, with an odometer/rev-counter and a front disk brake, made from 1977 to 1982 (as I recollect). A basically identical machine was sold in the UK during the same period as an RS-100. The preceding variant of the RS-100 appeared identical to this, except having a drum front brake and no odometer. Prior to this, the original RS-100 had looked a little more different, being identical in appearance to the later RXZ-100, except in the shape of the headlamp, and in having points ignition, instead of electronic. Following the RX-100 (RS-100 in the UK), Yamaha introduced the RX-S 100 in 1983 (possibly 1982). This remained in production into the 1990s. As I recollect, it went out of production in Japan, and Escort in India began producing them. Yamaha briefly put the RX-S back into production in Japan, making some late changed to its appearance...primarily in the shape of the seat and a new front disk brake, as I recollect. They also became more closely involved with the Escort production, with Escort variants appearing with EY designations. The Escort variants,had, as I recollect, heavier guage steel tube frames, screws for use with flat head screw driver, and other changes to make them better suited to the Indian market. There were two main variants, as I recollect...one badged as an RX-100, and the other I forget, though it may have been the EY-100. One was a higher spec, having the pillion's footpegs mounted on rear set, frame-mounted hangars, rather than on the swing arm as on the other Indian (and on every Japanese) variant.

The RX-Z, which was produced in the 1990s, I believe, was sold alongside the RX-S and the Escorts in certain markets. Although basically a much-older, and less-potent version of the same design as the RX-S, they continued to be sold in some markets after the Japanese-built RX-S had become quite scarce.

Yamaha may well have produced a variant of the RX-S as the RX-100 during the same period, as described here, at least in certain markets, but in refering only to this variant, this article fails completely to describe the original variant to which this code referred, as well as other variants built by Yamaha or Escort.
