William S. Holland divorced[edit]

I don't know if/when somebody will make a bio of William S. Holland, but in case:

"Mr. & Ms." Jet. Johnson Publishing Company, September 7, 1961. Vol. 20, No. 20. ISSN 0021-5996. p. 21.

His wife, Mattie J. Holland, a businessperson, filed for divorce by September 7, 1961. It's definitely him because the guy was the principal of Ryan Junior High School after it split from Yates. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:39, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Demographic data[edit]

@Broadmoor: Hi! About this edit I chose to restore the info, as:

1. No reason was specified for the removal
2. Demographic data indicated in secondary sources (which discuss trends/developments) has precedence over demographic data in primary sources
3. the growth in numbers of non-black students at Yates is an important development

Re: desegregation[edit]

@IndedibleHulk: Re: this edit

When I titled it "Post-desegregation" I meant to say that de jure segregation had ended. However white people did not begin attending schools that were previously designated for black children in significant numbers; instead wealthier and more talented black students went to schools formerly only for white (and Hispanic and Asian) students.

Now the percentage of white students in the whole of HISD is 8%. If desegregation means white students attending these historically black schools in significant numbers, that not happen for awhile. The white people moving into the Third Ward are often childless or use magnet or private schools (the wealthier African-Americans in Riverside Terrace do this).
