Great opportunity to mend bridges with her art[edit]

Recently punk artist Alice Bags publicly apologized for calling an Asian band promoter “dragon lady” in a deragatory way. It was deeply moving to hear Alice Bags say this in public. It healed a lot of wounds including Alice Bags’ ( the Asian band promoter once threw Alice Bags out of her venue and told Alice she could no longer play there.)

Given the media and historical constructions of racial stereotypes that Yayoi has endured and has used and spread as well in her earlier work referencing community members who are black in racist stereotypes ( particularly Black men) AND given the attacks on Asian elderly ( I am one who has survived such an attack by a white mentally disturbed man)as misrepresented in similar racist stereotyping of Black community members being perpetrators of such crimes, Yayoi Kusama has a great opportunity to heal this open wound amongst our communities…

Community members here in SF would appreciate such a gesture by Yayoi and/or her reps that would shed light on how we all take responsibility by participating in racist stereotyping.

Would it be possible for SFMOMA to sponsor a panel of Black and Asian artists and community members to address these issues and possibly heal the wounds we have endured as a result. Can we shed light on these wounds and thereby help heal our communities? SFMOMA would play a beautiful role in this healing if they would sponsor such a dialogue. 2001:5A8:42AC:1900:9C2F:3F4E:607F:8767 (talk) 23:56, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
