Far too much information in "Paper Walls" part[edit]

I don't think stuff as time lines (when which song and which video from that album was released on the bands myspace page, for example) belongs into an encyclopedia. yellowcard in LA?[edit]

I was pretty sure these guys moved out to LA at some point and their myspace ( http://myspace.com/yellowcard ) also mentions it, however I find no info on this in the article.

First Album/Debut Album[edit]

Yeah, this article references "Midget Tossing" as the first album, but "One for the Kids" as the debut album. I'm not a genius or particularly well-versed in music terminology, but aren't the two the same thing?

It's a tricky topic for this band (and is frequently discussed on fan message boards). The lineup (not to mention--disputably--the band's general tone and style) underwent such a drastic change between "Midget Tossing" and "One for the Kids" (and, to a lesser degree, between "Where We Stand" and "One for the Kids") that it's hard to say just what is their "first" album. Since the band's name and a few of their members carried over to "One for the Kids," "Midget Tossing" is often called their "first" album. However, "One for the Kids" was the first album released by the current (main) lineup and matches the band's sound in proceeding albums much more closely...thus, it's often labelled their "debut" album. Still, I agree that the labels are pretty subjective & tricky to deal with.

Oh, also, many fans (and journalists) call "One for the Kids" the band's "debut" album for reasons of notoriety...it's often considered their breakout album in many ways. Of course, the big bucks didn't start rolling in until the band signed with Capitol for "Ocean Avenue," but "One for the Kids" was when they really started to get their name out there. Another interesting point: no albums released before "One for the Kids" are listed under the band's discography on their own official website...even though "Where We Stand" was re-released last year as a promotion preceeding the "Lights and Sounds" release. Sorry I don't have an account But it sounded real bad that someone wrote "and the Guitar he used was made out of wood" and "one of their boyfriends" I chnged boyfriends to friends and got rid of the wood thing simply because EVERY guitar is made out of wood. Now if someone knows for a fact that it wasn't a Gibson that might be worthy of mention.

Trivial Trivia[edit]

The amount and content of the trivia is simply ridiculous and needs to be cut down. It seems like whoever posted it all is simply trying to promote Yellowcard rather than to inform.

No kidding! I added some templates that might call attention to the need for help (and if nothing else, they'll at least let readers know that a lot of what is being said is kind of fishy).
Any ideas? I'm tempted to just scrap the whole section, but maybe it would be better to pick a few important points, dig up verifiable sources for them, and delete everything else. (But that's a lot of work for a decidedly "trivial" problem. ;) )

Okay. As I see it, things are looking good--only a few changes still need to be made to whip this into shape:

  • Expand and clarify introduction
  • (Possibly) further clean up History (correct tone and flow; get source for MTV News citation)
  • Clean up neurtality issues in Lights and Sounds under Lineup Changes (Good luck with this--it's a very touchy subject right now. Both Capitol and the band members themselves have been pretty mum about the whole thing. The MTV source already cited in the section may be the only place to get good information.)
  • Figure out what in the world to do with the Trivia section (Again, good luck. I'll try to see if I can get the info from the Trivia section from the old website, but I'm not sure I'll be able to. To whomever tackles this: please keep in mind that if you can't cite a source, it doesn't belong on Wikipedia--save it for the Yellowcard message boards.)

I cleaned up the trivia. The criteria I used was very simple:

  1. Information about the band members does not belong here, it belongs on each member's Wikipedia page.
  2. Information about songs and videos do not belong here, they belong on the album and/or singles Wikipedia pages.

"Special Edition" Album[edit]

The Japanese release of the "Ocean Avenue" album was released with the name "Special Edition" attached and comes with four bonus tracks and the musical score of the song "Ocean Avenue" plus a couple of videos (viewable on PC) it seems. I have a copy of this disc and | here is another reference (with tracklist). I'm not sure whether this should be added just on the Ocean Avenue page or as a separate album or just as trivia or what... My knowledge of the band is very very limited (buying the CD is the first look at them I've taken) so I'd feel wrong adding the information myself. ProdigySim 09:11, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Genre[edit]

Please leave pop punk first as it is their main genre.They said that they are not punk rock in an interview so don't have punk rock first.Pop punk / alternative rock is good.
Ummm, no it isn't 'their main genre'. The only records of theirs that come close to being pop-punk are One for the Kids, The Underdog EP and Ocean Avenue. Their first 2 albums are hard rock with elements of metal (LP's drumming is around twice as hard/fast, heavier guitars, Ben Dobson's screaming vocals), and Still Standing EP is starting to break away from it to a wierd combination of it all. And as for L&S, thats what the alternative label is for. Not pop, not hard rock, and not pop-punk.
And what about Paper Walls? Is this album Pop punk or not? I ask cause I haven't heard the album...

Ocean Avenue Bonus Disk[edit]

I'm getting frustrated trying to understand this bonus disk, there are very many different tracklistings in different places. Some have an Untitled Track - 3:35 at the end and some don't. I didn't say you were vandalizing it, Moe. I said Rocker7777 was vandalizing the article by screwing up the paragraphs and such. I know why you removed the images, so that's why I added summaries and non-free image descriptions to the image pages. Maybe if you would've checked for that, you would've known not to remove the images. And as for the one page with rules and such for non-free content, It says "Multiple items are not used if one will suffice." And one will not suffice as there is more than one album. So I will put the images back up and unless u show me proof that they are not allowed, I will keep reinserting them, because I feel they are an important part of the article. Don't make personal attacks. I'm not being "goody-goody" about it. WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS isn't a reason to keep violations of fair use. You're right that it has been up for a long time, but it has only fairly recently been decided that discographies are not to transclude the album covers like this article had them. Wikipedia is not a majority rule or a democracy. It doesn't matter how many people agree with you on something that is against policy. The images being posted on the article are a clear violation of fair use policy and I have removed them. I'd rather not have to block people over this, but if the continued disruptive edits, personal attacks and fair use violations continue, have no doubt that I'm going to. Pete Mosely[edit]

For a long time, people have been adding piano as one of Mosely's jobs in the band. I really don't think it's necessary to add this because there are barely any songs that have piano in them. Nope, it's completely correct. There's a citation if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully the band will get back together, but they said they need a break. It's not like blink-182's hiatus though. The members are still getting along, they just said they need a break to get in touch with themselves or something like that. They'll be back together within a year, I predict. Releasing two albums in one year? Album names?[edit]

The page says "The band said they are going to release two albums at the same year, but this plan was still unsure" and then under Discography lists two albums, one named "Going Home" and the other titled "Yellowcard." Hey, can someone help with this? Ryan's bio went missing sometime in 2007. Currently it just redirects to the YC page. There is a cache of it from that time and it obviously needs a massive amount of edits. I went through the archives and couldn't find what happened. They fail WP:NMUSIC: "All articles on albums, singles or other recordings must meet the basic criteria at the notability guidelines, with significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" and "Notability aside, a standalone article is only appropriate when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged into the artist's article or discography."
