Deletion/Notabillity[edit]

This article is notable for inclusion on wikipedia on both football and rugby league counts. It was home to a member club of the football league in the 1920s, and was the historic site of the first rugby league international ever played. It is now footnoted, althrough it could do with expansion. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 13:43, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name change[edit]

The article seems to have been constructed based on sources listing football grounds in the English football League. While Aberdare Athletic FC are certainly listed as playing at "Aberdare Athletic FC's Ground" and later, "The Athletic Ground", this seems to start around 1913 (when the football club was supposedly in dispute to play on the grounds). However, it seems that English language articles predating this dispute all refer to the ground with the current name, Ynys ("Ynys fields", "Ynys Grounds" or "The Ynys Athletic Ground"):

English language article from 1903 referring exclusively to the Ynys Athletic Grounds.
English language article from 1904 referring exclusively to the Ynys Grounds.
English language article from 1905 exclusively referring to the Ynys Field.
English language article from 1908 exclusively referring to the Ynys Grounds.
English language article on the supposed dispute of 1913 referring to the Aberdare Athletic Grounds
English language article from 1919 refering to the same ground as both Aberdare Athletic Ground and The Ynys.
1919 English language article, exclusively referring to the ground of Aberdare Athletic as The Ynys.

As well as the name "Ynys" predating the name Aberdare Athletic Gorund, the name Ynys has now superseded all other names for the playing fields in both Welsh and English writings (Yr Ynys in Welsh and The Ynys in English). Indeed, the name "the Ynys" is today used by Aberdare RFC, Aberdare CC and Aberdare Valley AAC as their as their home ground:

Aberdare RFC Twitter post referring to a tournament at "The Ynys"
Recent Twitter post by Aberdare CC referring to the ground as "Ynys Playing Fields""
English language version of the Welsh Athletics webpage on Ron Jones Stadium, referring to both the stadium and Aberdare Valley AAC as being based at "The Ynys"

Given this historical and current context I have moved this page to the name Ynys (Aberdare). I believe this totally satisfies Wikipedia's title criteria for recognisability and naturalness (specifically in the English language), but there may be a need for further discussion of the name based on precision, concision and consistency.
