Move to more accurate namespace?[edit]

I’d like to propose moving this article to a different namespace that better aligns with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sports teams), which are easily adapted for use with a sports league. The name "Russian Women's Hockey League" was appropriate for the predecessor of the current league (1995–2015) but is not used for English-language publications from the league, is not one of the primary names used by English-language journalists, and is not particularly accurate – the league has included a Chinese team for two seasons. English-language material published by the Женская хоккейная лига (ЖХЛ) uses the name "Women's Hockey League" or "WHL," which has also been adopted by some English speaking members of the press. However, concerns that WHL is not sufficiently distinct to prevent confusion with other leagues – nearly every elite women's ice hockey league around the world uses some combination of the words – have led a number of publishers to use "Zhenskaya Hockey League" or "ZhHL," a hybrid romanization–translation in the style of the KHL.
Personally, I prefer Zhenskaya Hockey League because it is distinct and unlikely to be confused with other leagues but I’d like to find some consensus before making any moves. – Spitzmauskc (talk) 00:11, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • That sounds like a good idea - I don't think I've really seen it referred to as "Russian Women's Hockey League" in any recent articles I've read or any social media posts I've come across. NHCLS (talk) 12:57, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
