Merger proposal[edit]

ZAMAK is a stub class article, and this article should be, so combining the two will help beef up one article about all zinc aluminum alloys. ACuZinc should be added to this article as well. --Wizard191 (talk) 21:14, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. The quality of an article bears no relation on its suitability for merging. That's a totally separate question.
ZAMAK (and Mazak) should not be merged with zinc-aluminium alloys. Although there are aluminium constituents in some of the familys' alloys, the canonical example of Mazak is the high purity die-casting zinc, developed as the first long-term stable zinc diecast alloy.

Andy, you are correct that quality isn't a good reason to combine the two. However, I still feel that they should be combined, because they both have zinc as their base metal and aluminum as their primary alloying element. Both are extensively used in die-casting as well. Eastern Alloys catagorizes them together and compares them to each other because of their very similar compositions [1]. When GM produced ACuZinc they compared it to both ZAMAK and ZA alloys [2]. Moreover, the UNS classifies them in the same family (Z35xxxx) [3].
On a separate note I think that if/when they are combined, the title should be changed to Zinc aluminum alloys. --Wizard191 (talk) 19:01, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree. Merging this this article with zinc aluminum alloys is like merging General Motors into "US Automakers". The various formulations of ZAMAK make the lion's share of zinc alloys and information on it could create quite a lengthy article. The only problem I see here is that ZAMAK needs to be expanded. Perhaps we should also merge the Harry Truman article into "US Presidents?"--Bodybagger (talk) 06:41, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
