Caps

94 goals in 44 games for Sweden? Surely not.

No mention of international options?

I see that the whole section on his international options has been completely taken out. I can understand why some editors would be hesitant to get involved in such a topic, but to not mention it at all is a little unfair. Here's an interview where he mentions it from just over a year ago:

"Zlatan began his career in the club "Balkan". He was its greatest talent, becaming the key player at just 15-years of age. His first coach, Višegrad refugee Rasim Suljkić, long tried to push Ibrahimović's appearance for the Bosnia-Herzegovina national team. Five years ago, when Bosnia's A2 selection went to a tournament in India, Zlatan received a call-up. He gave a thank you but didn't respond, for he didn't want to play with the second team."

"'I asked 'Where are Salihamidžić, Baljić, Barbarez, Hibić, Bolić...' I'm not pretentious, but simply know how much I'm worth. And that's how I never played for Bosnia. To be honest, I'm not even disappointed. I was born in Sweden and I play for my country. Some were saying that I would play for Croatia, but there was nothing to that. If you must, I feel more Bosnian."

Fix the pronunciation

The one listed is wrong, the correct: pronounced [zlǎtan ibraxǐːmoʋitɕ].

Typo?

Quote from Barcelona section: "However, Hleb deal collapsed." I'm pretty sure this is a typo, but I have no idea what it should be.

There is a spelling error on this specific line --> "He played for the Sweden national team. He was the captain of Sweden until his retirement rom international football in 2016." Please replace the word 'rom' with 'from'.

Thank you.

Zlatan has now also scored in the Nort-West Derby between United and Liverpool, should be added to the list of big european derbies he scored in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.216.27.11 (talk) 18:13, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Ibrahimovic made the religious cross sign when substituted on to the field when he played for Swedish national team and Ajax during 2002-2004. So he is not a muslim, as the wiki text assumes.

Change "... but not actually unique to islam" to "and almost unique to islam". Saying that having multiple wives isn't unique to islam doesn't say anything, and is rather misleading as polygyny or polygami is not common in any of the other main religions. 88.89.33.231 (talk) 22:11, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Honours Club - Juventus

Zlatan Ibrahimović won no titles with Juventus. To list the Serie A titles of 2004–05, 2005–06 and adding revoked is not good enough. Reference could be made in the body of the text to what happened but they simply should not be included in any honours list in any way, shape or form. The nature of the scandal in which Juventus was involved demands the obliteration of any attribution of any honours in these seasons to the club or its players alike. The website transfermarket.co.uk (see: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/zlatan-ibrahimovic/erfolge/spieler/3455 ) correctly lists the number of Ibrahimović's Serie A titles as 4. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Donald1920 (talkcontribs) 20:31, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Religion, again

Someone adding aftonbladet and dagen.se as "source" to claim his reglion, but the first one is just about a reporter guessing the meaning of a tattoo (and in the page history of Religious Views of Zlatan Ibrahimović, Ibrahimović had many Buddhist tattoo). The second one, was a claim that Ibrahimović made an interview with El Periódico de Catalunya, and then translated to Swedish to Göteborgs-Posten [1], and then dagen.se. However, since the original article by El Periódico was not found, it can't be verified. Matthew_hk tc 13:01, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Ibrahimovic has just been released by Manchester United. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40208316 24.205.68.223 (talk) 15:24, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Not done As article states "The Swede is out of contract on 30 June and there was no mention of another deal being offered when Ibrahimovic's name appeared on the Premier League released list on Friday afternoon." Contracts end on 30 June and until then he is technically a Manchester United player. Qed237 (talk) 16:05, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Qed237- shouldn't the same be said to John Terry since he still contracted to Chelsea? The lead paragraph currently says 'last played for' instead of 'plays for', which should also wait till July 1st and hence he is technically still a Chelsea player. 86.161.7.170 (talk) 18:18, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Why is Manchester United mentioned twice in the infobox? A new line for every contract? --Gereon K. (talk) 15:50, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

  • His old contract expired on 30 June, and he was then a free agent, and free to go wherever he wanted, for two months before signing a new contract with MU. So it's not a case of renewing an existing contract or signing a new contract before the old one expires, as is usually the case. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 15:56, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
But he didn't sign for any other club. So dividing it to two lines would be just a waste -Price Zero|talk 17:09, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
I totally agree, this makes no sense putting it twice. --Bobtinin (talk) 04:51, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

@Bobtinin: please respect the consensuses of Football wikiproject regarding the period in infobox. The consensuses was if the contract was renewed before expires in June, then grouping the two contractual periods. If you can't agree, please make a strong argument in the project page. Matthew_hk tc 05:08, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

For information: the long-term consensus at WT:FOOTY is outlined at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 95#Player rejoining club after leaving them... but he did not play with anyone in between. It's summed up in that thread fairly clearly as "if someone leaves in June at the end of their previous contract (for example), but rejoins before the new season starts, it is one spell. If they rejoin after the next season has started, it's a second spell." cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:39, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

You can verify this info on PSG's Official Website: https://en.psg.fr/theclub/halloffame/article/zlatan-legend-article

The info is at the bottom of the page, in the last paragraph: "156 goals (club record)" !!

The record stands out even more on the french version of this page: https://www.psg.fr/theclub/halloffame/article/zlatan-legend-article At the bottom of the page again.

The correct information is already present on Zlatan's french Wikipedia page.

I am not against any religion. But this article gives the impression that he is a church attending catholic. He doesn't go to church. And he said I am very catholic not in a literal sense. It was a statement given in Barcelona which is a very catholic city to highlight his belief that he believes in God and only God can judge him.

Major restructuring, and editing out info in Early life

@CS Sutton: Is there a reason why it was removed the mention of partial Albanian descent on his mother's side? Or removed mention of his father being a Muslim Bosniak and his mother a Catholic Croat from the "Early life"? If the argument is it was simplified to "Bosnia" and "Croatia", that's not good enough. There are multiple overlapping religions and ethnicites in each of those countries. The civil-wars of (post-)Yugoslavia were a very notable and documented thing that involved those very religious/ethnic factors, making it relevant information. This "simplification" is a little too much simplification. Furthermore, his parents' religions and ethnicity does play a role in his "Early life." It would be grossly callous to remove it from any person with his Yugoslavian background and upbringing. –DA1 (talk) 23:26, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

Update: Bosnia & Herzegovina didn't come into existence until 1992, and Croatia didn't exist until 1991. The accuracy of the article has been compromised. Sutton also made 14 edits without an WP:EDITSUMMARY, making it hard to figure out what was changed and how accurate or not they are. We're going to have to revert this pre- all these edits per WP:FIES, and if you want to make changes leave an WP:ES so we can verify. DA1 (talk) 23:40, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
Update 2: Going through the edits, I've noticed @LivinRealGüd: in particular was responsible for the inaccurate additions and removals to "Early life", and was reverted once before by Somedifferentstuff. See points above. Please do not remove ethnic and religious background from Early life, or replace them with non-existent states. Nor assume a Croat is from Croatia, and a Bosniak is from Bosnia. They are not mutually inclusive. There are Croats in present-day Bosnia, and vice versa. Which is irrelevant, since the subject's parents come from Yugoslavia which was all-encompassing. DA1 (talk) 00:20, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your comment. Yes, I agree with you. First of all, lets get on the right foot here so assume good faith, please. My revisions tot he early life section are accurate, simpler, and clear. I have no problem with you going back and adding that his mother was of partial Albanian descent or that she was a Catholic Croat and his father is a Muslim Bosniak. Lets stay away from statements like "grossly callous" and "accuracy of the article has been compromised" as they don't assume good faith and are serious exaggerations. Citing WP:FIES doesn't support a restoration. From the looks of it CS Sutton was doing minor copy editing and other minor edits. Also, you do not need to have edit summaries to edit articles, its nice, but not essential. Not to mention much needed citation trimming and/or removal. Also, there have been numerous edits that wen't past your restoration date which is throwing out the baby with the bath water. I agree with out that the information is important, but with outlets like Zlatan Ibrahimović#Religious and social background, who needs so much detail in the early life section? As for the 9 citations... I'm sure I don't have to tell you that is overctiation to the max. If you're worried about historic locational changes just add modern-day Croatia, etc. and include the historic states. In short, I agree with your proposed edits and think you should update the article but where you left it at 01:38, 11 May 2018‎ is not an improvement. I've tagged the article and will remove when it has been addressed. LivinRealGüd (talk) 01:46, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

@LivinRealGüd: Let me start off by apologizing to you, and Sutton, if my statements seemed harsh or came across that way. Wasn't my intention. WP:ES are important (especially when doing bulk edits) because they do lead to confusion and lead to reversions such as this one. I have assumed WP:AGF which is why I never accused either of Vandalism, simply lack of ES and factual inaccuracy. These are easy to overlook, but historically there are some notable differences (between these choice of words), both the ones which should be included in the article and ones which we should not conflate.

As for overcitation, I'm actually the one who included the {{Overcite}} template a few weeks ago, so I definitely agree with you we need to cut those down to few. Any suggestions you have for where we should start off by reverting or not? The current scenario is a little off. DA1 (talk) 01:50, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

I think you should restore the article to 07:25, 6 May 2018 and re-introduce your edits on that page. That way everyone wins. LivinRealGüd (talk) 01:54, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Do you mean 3 May 2018? Why don't you do the honors. But let me know beforehand were there any physical links that were removed that backed up key historic (such as background, ethnicity, religion) information? Because the mention of Albanian descent on his mother's side was lost in the article. DA1 (talk) 01:59, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
I think 07:25, 6 May 2018 is preferable, that way you can edit on top of the other edits to your liking. I just searched for the mention of Albanian descent on his mother's side on the article and it didn't come up. You should certainly add that back in. I'm sure there were removed physical links that overcited key historic (such as background, ethnicity, religion) information. Either way, I'm sure those citations can be redistributed or condensed so its just one or two cites a sentence. Split up sentences if you must. I think a good combination would see the historical states his parents came from as well as the names of the modern state to be more informative. After I restore, feel free to edit the page and add that information in. LivinRealGüd (talk) 02:06, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Since we're on the same page, I'll try to dig through the sources (on the old version) later on and see if there's anything worth keeping. DA1 (talk) 02:17, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Sounds good. LivinRealGüd (talk) 02:18, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
I'm removing some phrases that are assumptive such as his father coming "from Bijeljina" (he was born there, but we can't really establish that's where he spent his whole life, unless its mentioned in a citation), or that his mother came "around the same time" (the article only notes his father's 1977). So its better to leave those details open ended. I'll be making minor changes like that. DA1 (talk) 02:34, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

In Milan(loan), from 2010-2011 he made 38 appearances and scored 21 goals. In Milan, from 2011-2012 he made 45 appearances and scored 35 goals. In PSG, from 2012-2016 he made 182 appearances and scored 158 goals. In Manchester United, from 2016-2017 season he made 46 appearances and scored 28 goals. Controversies

This section ("Controversies") is too long in my opinion and includes some gossip type of stuff that probably shouldn't be on a serious encyclopedic entry. I'm thinking of this for instance:

"Also in 2004, after an international friendly match against England, Ibrahimović who scored the only goal in a 1–0 win,[335] was asked by a reporter about scars in his face, then he replied: "Well...I don't know...you'll have to ask your wife about that"." --Fairhop (talk) 09:50, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

There have been a lot of cases on WP in the past where certain editors would claim spurious Albanian connections to famous people. It's a stronger case for Zlatan, since his family is from that general region, and the claim is backed up by an archived bio of the PSG site, which should be reliable, but I'm alway sceptical of anyone claiming Albanian origins on here. – PeeJay 07:52, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

I also think that the Psg source is adequate. Uopo7 (talk) 07:50, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

If there weren't any problems with the source then why now? Uopo7 (talk) 07:52, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

I don’t know if it is adequate or not. I initially restored it, however an issue is the lack of other reliable sources to validate it. If he does have Albanian ancestry it should be straightforward to source it, but thus far it isn’t. Nampa DC (talk) 12:26, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

However, it is accepted by the other users except you. Uopo7 (talk) 18:29, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Overall Records

Zlatan also scored on his MLS debut. This could be added to the following dotpoint.

"The only player to score on his Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League debut.[523]"

However, the above may be a legitimate record in its own right (I can't verify but it will be hard to beat), so a follow-up dot-point could be added so that there are two: one saying no player has scored on their debut for all these leagues, and a second saying no player has scored for all these leages plus MLS. See below.

"The only player to score on his Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League debut.[523] The only player to score on his Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League and Major League Soccer debut. [1] "

Thank you for your edit request. I've reviewed the revision history of the page and can see this has been an issue a few times (similar edits have been reverted in the past). As such, I would advise you discuss the change here on the talk page first - I saw there has been a discussion regarding this matter previously, but a clear consensus doesn't seem to have been reached. Also, please could you provide reliable sources to support the change. Thanks J850NK (talk) 18:18, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Comeback in national team

Reports say that Zlatan is expected to make a comeback in Sweden's national team. He's apparently been called to the World Cup qualifiers. Is it too early to add to the article? Doesn't appear to be confirmed yet. Heymid (contribs) 12:12, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Trivia and curious fact

It's the only player in the history of UCL who have seen his previous clubs (Inter 2010, Barça 2011) lift the trophy right after he leaves, that's definetly deserve a mention or even a whole paragraph, at least according to the guy who is trolling on Çalhanoğlu's page... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.45.164.36 (talk) 19:21, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

So to get this straight, you came here to suggest this useless trivia because someone "trolled" another article? Not sure what your thinking process is here or how that would help anything. TylerBurden (talk) 02:01, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
What happens on other articles is largely irrelevant here. Such a paragraph would not be appropriate as it is pure trivia. – PeeJay 18:43, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

In the Honours section of this page under the title "Premier League", it's now incorrect to say that Ibrahimović is the oldest player to reach 15 goals in a single season (2016–17 season at 35 years and 125 days).

According to the Premier League website Cristiano Ronaldo scored 18 goals in the 2021/22 season (https://www.premierleague.com/players/2522/Cristiano-Ronaldo/overview). According to Ronaldo's Wikipedia page he was born on 5th February 1985. Thus Ronaldo was at least 36 years old when scored 15 goals in a single Premier League season

Please change or remove this stat from Ibrahimović's Wikipedia page.

Comments

  • His first playing years are organised by team, while his latter years are organised by year. This creates WP:RECENTISM and WP:NEUTRAL issues. I would recommend removing the year subsection headings, and organising by club; for clubs where he stayed a long time, divide by theme, not year.
  • On a related note, there's a lot of unnecessary detail. Unless goals are important for other reasons, they shouldn't be given their own sentence.
  • WP:WTW look out—"the Catalan giants", "PSG's league conquest", "in idiosyncratic style", etc.

Putting this on hold until the above comments are addressed. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:26, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

A week has passed, and the above comments have not been addressed. I think that the issues with unnecessary detail is enough to fail this nomination. Best wishes, ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 21:57, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

94.176.17.50 (talk) 05:09, 6 June 2023 (UTC) Hello, I would like you to edit some changes from the source of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. First of all, I would like you to renew the picture of Zlatan being in AC Milan since it was his last club in this season or year. Second of all, please make his career in AC Milan from 2019 to 2023 but not 2020 to 2023 because Zlatan firstly appeared in AC Milan during the 2019 to 2020 season from the 26th of December, 2019. Now the last part is to make Zlatan still appear for the Swedish national team because it didn't say that he retired this year or if something bad happened to him in the national team. I hope this helps.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Sincerely,
