The Rules (Revisited)[edit]

I added refs/citations for the canon rules (movie and promotional videos). These are the unsourced rules which I've removed from the main article:

  1. "Get a kickass partner"
  2. "Ziploc bags"
  3. "Avoid strip clubs"
  4. "Double-knot your shoes"
  5. "Clean socks"
  6. "Hygiene"
  7. "Always have backup"

I bet if you look though the article history all the rules were sourced but the links rotted and someone overzealously deleted the references, unfortunately setting it up so that someone like you would in good faith delete the unsourced rules, that had previously been sourced. If you don't have time to search through the article history and read the references and watch all the short videos that is understandable but please don't delete the rules without good reason. If you think any of the rules are actually incorrect then mark them as citation needed. See also WP:LINKROT.
Also why were the rules moved? (There's no good reason for changing a long stable article and it makes it unnecessarily more difficult to compare against older versions of the article.) It is entirely disingenuous for Robocoder to move the rules in this article and to then to go to the Zombieland Double Tap article and claim he is moving the rules in that article for "consistency".[1] -- 109.76.137.43 (talk) 00:21, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We should probably also discuss if rules from the second film such as rule 52 should be included in this article.[2] The list wasn't exclusively based on the first film, many of the rules listed were from promotional material, but if rules from the second film are to be included they should be clear marked as such.
If the Sony Website is dead (it seems to be) you might need to check youtube for the rules. Here's a playlist of more Zombieland rules (it's Sony official, so there shouldn't be any copyright issues). -- 109.76.137.43 (talk) 00:47, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Strike above because using videos as references may have been necessary at the time but they break too easily and are part of the problem that got us here.
Between IGN and Screenrant the section is solidly referenced.[3] (Unlike the rules listed in Zombieland Double Tap, which are not referenced at all, but iirc they all came directly from the film anyhow, and shouldn't need external references.)
The question of including any of the rules from the second film in this article, or where to put the rules section might still need to be discussed. -- 109.76.137.43 (talk) 01:39, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I can't make everybody happy. I put the rules in one place in Zombieland Double Tap, and instead of moving it, another editor simply reverted it. Reversionists take the fun out of contributing. It's the primary reason why I don't contribute to WP as much as I used to.
The IGN list doesn't list the above rules.[4]
This page from 2009 is one of the earliest sources before fans started making up and numbering new rules.[5] "Double-knot your shoe[lace]s" is an un-numbered rule revealed by the screenwriters.
If the movie claims 33 rules, how can there be rules #34, 48, and 49?
Why is Ziploc bags back as #19? It's #2 in a deleted scene, and #23 in Double Tap.
p.s. I did read the archives before I started making changes. I went thru the edit history for rules #8 and #21, and they came from anonymous editors who didn't specify the source in the edit summary. -- Robocoder (t|c) 01:27, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like 109.76.137.43 not only reverted my deletion of the 6 above rules, but also added 7 more. I sent an email to the editorial staff at screenrant. Hopefully they can clarify how they fact checked that list. -- Robocoder (t|c) 02:01, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'll let you guys decide what to do. I agree with Robocoder that I don't like contributing to this website nearly as much as I used to, because of all those fucking idiots who revert good edits for no reason. But for the record, here's a full list of rules, as far as I can tell:

Rules 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 17, 18, 22, 31, and 32 are listed in movie 1. Movie 1 mentions rule 26, but doesn't number it. Rules 36, 42, 52, and 53 are listed in movie 2. The Ziploc bags rule is listed as rule 23 in movie 2, although it was also listed as rule 2 in a deleted scene in movie 1, despite the fact that the released version of movie 1 had a different rule 2. Rules 6, 12, 15, 29, and 33 come from promotional videos. Rules 34, 48, and 49 come without further attribution from this website: https://screenrant.com/zombieland-behind-scenes-details-making-trivia/ . That leaves rules 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, and 30, which come without further attribution from this website (which also provides the number for the aforementioned rule 26): https://screenrant.com/zombieland-movie-columbus-survival-rules-explained-jesse-eisenberg/ . - 68.207.244.73 (talk) 20:35, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Screenrant lists 33 rules, meets the requirements of a Wikipedia reliable sources and means rules 1 to 33 are sorted.
Rules 34, 48, and 49 were "From the promotion teasers and clips to the film’s official merchandising"[6] -- 109.77.195.16 (talk) 06:04, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Krista[edit]

Only took ten years but a recent edit claimed "Krista" should be spelled "Christa"[7] but from past discussions I know subtitles are not always right and the script or other sources could easily be using a different spelling. The editor also did not specify which version (DVD/Bluray/TV broadacst?) included that subtitle. This should probably be verified from another source, ideally the filmmakers. Incidentally Emma Stone's mother is called "Krista Jean Stone" and this might be circular reporting[8] but there are sources that say as much, so I'm going to revert to WP:STATUSQUO until we have better sources. -- 109.77.203.218 (talk) 01:52, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Product placement[edit]

Rolling Stone magazine included the film on a list 10 examples of Egregious Product Placement.

  • Katy Kroll (4 June 2013). "Marketing at the Movies: 10 Egregious Product Placements". Rolling Stone.

The critical response section didn't seem the right place for this, I'm not really sure where to add it. Maybe instead it could be used as a reference in a different way, perhaps the Production could explain that Harrelson is a strict vegan and that the Twinkie he ate in the film was a specially made raw vegan substitute. -- 109.78.206.55 (talk) 19:16, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vegan or Vegetarian?[edit]

Maybe I'm obsessing over a trivial aspect of the production, but since it's mentioned in the article . . . It's stated that Harrelson challenged Fleischer not to eat dairy, and that Fleischer "succeeded and maintained a vegetarian diet for 11 months." This is either a complete misunderstanding of vegetarianism or just a non sequitur, as vegetarians can eat all the dairy products they want; it's vegans who can't eat dairy. 65.51.145.131 (talk) 23:56, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
