Hidden away[edit]

Why is this hidden away with redlinks at Zvarde and Zvarde parish? Gene Nygaard (talk) 17:15, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Zvārde article does not exist - that's why! Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 18:09, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So why are you bothering to create articles like this, just to leave them hidden away so that nobody finds them? Doesn't make any sense at all. Gene Nygaard (talk) 18:22, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Naturally, Zvārde shouldn't be red either. This article is about a place with that name. Gene Nygaard (talk) 18:25, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, it does not make sence in your world of half empty glasses. I created 433 articles on Latvian parishes, and it seems you have found a batch that I have forgotten to redirect, since all the others were redirected. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 18:42, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you type "Zvarde" without the diacritics to the seach engine to the left, the search engine suggests existing articles beginning with "Zvarde". Zvārde should be about the village, not the parish. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 18:55, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad to hear that you have done this on much of what you have created.
See Wikipedia:disambiguation then; as along as this article exists, neither Zvarde nor Zvārde should be red. For one thing, why would any random user of this encyclopedia be expected know that "parish" is the word chosen for use in the name these articles, from among a number of other possibilities, in English or whatever. Just its name without any name for the type of subdivision should at least lead you to a disambiguation page or to a disambiguation hatline at the top of some other page which might lead a user to this article if it is what he or she is looking for.
Not going to the article and instead presenting search results isn't quite the same; read what it says at WP:redirect. In any case, that search engine is of no help at all for the redlinks which will appear if it is linked in an article. Nor is the fact that you will miss out on the need for disambiguation in those cases when an attempt to create the redirect leads you to a different article or an existing disambiguation page. Gene Nygaard (talk) 23:51, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Principally, you are right. Practically, it takes the same time to stub out articles about all Latvian villages and hamlets, as it takes to create redirects to their parishes. That is quite a time consuming task, which I will not be undertaking anytime soon. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 07:33, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
