Template:Chart of NZ vineyard area by variety over time/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template uses {{Graph:Chart}} to produce a stacked line graph of New Zealand's vineyard area by grape variety over time, using data from the annual reports available from New Zealand Winegrowers, the national industry organisation. Currently, they do not publish their statistics with an open license, so we can't use Wikidata-based tab-delimited files (yet... we're working on it!)

The colour values used in the chart are from {{BrewerColors}}, using Set3.

Usage[edit]

To include this chart in an article, simply place the following where you need it:

{{Chart of NZ vineyard area by variety over time}}

Which should produce a nice stacked graph:

New Zealand vineyard area by grape variety over time (1990–2020), in hectares.
  Sauvignon Blanc
  Pinot Noir
  Pinot Gris
  Chardonnay
  Riesling
  Syrah
  Cabernet Sauvignon
  Merlot
  Other varieties
The more than five-fold growth of Sauvignon Blanc plantings in the first two decades of the 21st century is evident, along with a similar rapid growth of Pinot Gris. Riesling, Merlot and Chardonnay are more or less unchanged or have declined slightly. A doubling of Pinot Noir has also occurred, and a tripling of the much smaller area of Syrah is countered by a corresponding decline in Cabernet Sauvignon.
Statistics from New Zealand Winegrowers 1998–2020 annual reports.[1]

Citation[edit]

You can optionally supply a named ref tag if the article already has a citation for the New Zealand Winegrowers reports and statistics page, otherwise one will be generated with the reference name "nzw-annual-reports". The ref is supplied as the first parameter, for example:

{{Chart of NZ vineyard area by variety over time | <ref name="refname"/>}}

The default citation will look something like this:
