... that Jumping Jack Jones's (pictured) distinctive pitching motion, which involved jumping some two feet in the air before throwing the ball, made him "the twirling marvel of his time"?

Compact review: Exp. 5x; no copyv., plag. close paraphr.; QPQ comp.; neut.; cit.; hooks cit.; pic. OK; GTG. I prefer ALT2 as it avoids the icky "Jones's" but either is fine. Picture looks like it is prophesying that he is going to be scalped (a la The Omen or Final Destination), the other picture in the article might be clearer. The first hook might be catchier if you didn't explain so much:

- alt 3 ... that pitcher, dentist and voice trainer Jumping Jack Jones (pictured) leaped in the air before throwing and became "the twirling marvel of his time"?
