Jumping Jack Jones[edit]

Drawing of Jumping Jack Jones from front page of The Sporting Life, September 17, 1883

  • ... that Jumping Jack Jones's (pictured) distinctive pitching motion, which involved jumping some two feet in the air before throwing the ball, made him "the twirling marvel of his time"?
* alt 1 ... that the pitching motion of Jumping Jack Jones (pictured) was said to be so confusing that batters were "not sure whether the ball or an arm or a leg was coming over the plate"?Cbl62 (talk) 01:03, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

5x expanded by Cbl62 (talk). Self nominated at 00:53, 2 August 2014 (UTC).

  • Compact review: Exp. 5x; no copyv., plag. close paraphr.; QPQ comp.; neut.; cit.; hooks cit.; pic. OK; GTG. I prefer ALT2 as it avoids the icky "Jones's" but either is fine. Picture looks like it is prophesying that he is going to be scalped (a la The Omen or Final Destination), the other picture in the article might be clearer. The first hook might be catchier if you didn't explain so much:
ALT2 ...... that baseball pitcher, dentist, and voice trainer Jumping Jack Jones (pictured) was "the twirling marvel of his time"? (Who is the twirling marvel of our time?) Belle (talk) 13:23, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. Alt 2 is not bad, but in keeping with your suggestion on modifying the original, how about this:
  • alt 3 ... that pitcher, dentist and voice trainer Jumping Jack Jones (pictured) leaped in the air before throwing and became "the twirling marvel of his time"?
I've also swapped images per your suggestion. The other one suffers from having the newspaper fold cut across his forehead. Cbl62 (talk) 19:57, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Let's go with ALT3 (and anybody that alters it in prep will get a knuckle sandwich; I'm feeling aggressive today) Belle (talk) 10:39, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
