Larry Cunningham[edit]

  • ... that Irish country singer Larry Cunningham and his band got their first break when Jim Reeves walked off the stage during a concert?

  • Article length is good. Date of creation checks out. I ran three of the sources through Duplication Checker and found no problems. The hook is intriguing. However, the article is almost entirely sourced to (a) Larry Cunningham's personal web site (which is not independent), and (b) two fan sites on show bands (the "Ian Gallagher home page" and irish-showbands.com) that do not appear to reliable sources. I can't find any hits on Google News, Google News Archive, Google Books, or Google Scholar to suggest that irish-showbands.com is a reliable source. The same applies to Ian Gallagher -- just a handful of news hits about a showband he had in the early 1990s, but nothing to establish him as reputable, expert source on this subject. Unless this can be sourced to independent, reliable sources, I don't think we can promote this to the Main Page. (It does appear that reliable sources are out there. I suggest that the nominator check Google Books and Google News Archive for ("larry cunningham" showband). Those searches turns up a number of book and mainstream media sources that might be used to expand the article and provide the much-needed reliable sourcing. See here and here.) • Thanks for the tips. I'll work on that. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 09:25, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
  • There are more and better references there now. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 20:09, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Sufficient level of reliable sourcing has now been added. I'd encourage Rwxrwxrwx to continue working on it. Among other things, it would be preferable to remove the citations to Cunningham's web site and the fan sites, and replace them all with the more reliable types of sources you've not added. The Cunningham bio (written by a third party) should be an especially good source. In sum, enough reliable sourcing has been added to give me comfort that the content is factual, and so this is now OK for DYK, but please to take it to the next level. • Thanks a lot. It's surprising he doesn't have more coverage, but maybe not; the Dublin media have always seen his music as a bit "culchie". Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 08:30, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
