List of songs recorded by Nicki Minaj[edit]

5x expanded by Calvin999 (talk). Self nominated at 17:31, 25 July 2013 (UTC).

  • Prose section expanded 5x, over 1500 characters. Neutral, found no close paraphrasing. Not happy with hook, or "fact" in the list; citation does not say addition of Rihanna vocals was "last minute" - addition of the track to the album was last minute. From the source [1] "Time passed, Rotem e-mailed Nicki and the two went back and forth until the rapper told him Rihanna had agreed to sing on the track." - time passed?! Need an alt hook. - Shudde talk 10:10, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Should be good with ALT2 hook. Although I'd recommend adding another citation to the "fact" within the list's lead [2] before posting. - Shudde talk 11:02, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Hmm one source is fine. Besides, that link doesn't contain any info.  — AARONTALK 11:04, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
  • The second source says "raps about ... stealing Lil Wayne and Drake's girls"; the one in the article doesn't say she steals fans -- rather this is implied, and the implication seems to be taken from the lyrics, rather than the RS itself (which includes some lyrics). May as well have just added a link to a site with the lyrics listed. The second source removes any doubt about verifiability. If it's excluded I'm not 100% sure it should be accepted for DYK, but am happy to defer to the promoting admin. - Shudde talk 11:21, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
  • "Nicki raps about how she’s hot enough to get loads of female fans: “Steal Wayne girls, I steal Drake girls", and the list says "On "Girls Fall Like Dominoes", Minaj raps about how she can steal fans from male artists in the music industry, specifically Lil Wayne and Drake." DYK is allowed to play on the words a bit, that's how things are made interesting and for people to click on it. What the review says and what the article says aren't that indifferent. You can't be so literally about things all the time. The fact is that the quote is backed up by the reviewer. Lyrics are all about interpretation, and this comes from a reliable source. I don't really see what the big issue is here to be quite honest.  — AARONTALK 11:56, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
ALT2 is referring to a fictional scenario, and therefore falls afoul of the DYK rule which says hooks must have some grounding in the real world. DoctorKubla (talk) 20:54, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
ALT3 ... that the Nicki Minaj song "Marilyn Monroe" was inspired by a quote by the actress of the same name?
ALT4 ... that the theme of Nicki Minaj's song "High School" is adultery?
Two options here, take your pick.  — AARONTALK 10:26, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
  • ALT4 is supported by the source, ALT3 talks about a song "rumoured" to be called Marilyn Monroe, and does not imply the song was inspired by the quote, rather the songs draws on or references the quote. So ALT3 is possibly ok, and ALT4 is definitely ok. The problem with ALT4 is it's an incredibly boring hook, a song with the theme of adultery? Is this likely to draw viewers? -- Shudde talk 11:26, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
  • This nomination has been lingering for some time. It barely met the length citeria (here at the time of nomination was 1642 characters including spaces and characters from citations). It's only just fitting the criteria, and could well fall into the situation described in criteria 2d: "In practice, articles longer than 1,500 characters may still be rejected as too short, at the discretion of the selecting reviewers". Worth noting that the length is significantly greater now, but that also means it's probably necessary for a recheck of close paraphrasing and copy-vio problems. I'll check the new alt hooks, but if they don't look good, I'm going to recommend this nomination is declined. -- Shudde talk 10:58, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Rechecked for copy-vio and close-paraphrasing and found no problems. A question though, why all the incline citations referencing wikipedia articles? I don't understand the point. -- Shudde talk 11:30, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
    • You keep rejecting my ideas, so I'm afraid ALT4 will have to do. A song called "High School" about adultery would grab my attention, think about it. Adultery and high school. What do you mean inline citations reference wikipedia articles??  — aron 11:46, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
      • I don't reject your "ideas" – I'm just checking whether the hooks meet the criteria. You have more control over this than anyone, as you write the hooks! Ref's [12], [19] and maybe more. Is this just referencing the "album" and providing a link to the article about the referenced album? I don't think it's particularly attention grabbing, but it's the best there is, and will probably do. -- Shudde talk 12:11, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
        • The liner notes from album booklets are for the writers which are in the booklet. They don't link to a URL because booklets are physical. It's the most reliable way of sourcing writers. I've seen so many hooks promoted which have word play to make it more interesting, but that's being rejected here. I can't help that you think ALT4 is boring, I actually think it's quite a good one. I wouldn't ever think that a song called "High School" is about adultery. Would you?  — aron 12:19, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
          • The first hook you proposed was just plain wrong: the collaboration took a long time to organise and was not at all a last minute addition; the second one probably falls foul of the rule "If the subject is a work of fiction or a fictional character, the hook must involve the real world in some way". The third one had a reference that couldn't even confirm the name of the song, and the last one was fine. The thing I'd take away is to take more care with the hooks; it's only one fact, that requires one RS. The fault is not with me (or DoctorKubla (talk · contribs)). Regarding the album covers, I was just curious, thanks for clearing it up. This nomination has dragged on for some time, but hopefully it's there now. -- Shudde talk 12:33, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Reiterating Shudde's tick approving ALT4, posted above on 11:26, 11 August 2013 (UTC), to improve its visibility, since this hook remains unpromoted after 30 days. BlueMoonset (talk) 13:14, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
