Memory: The Origins of Alien

Created by CAPTAIN MEDUSA (talk). Self-nominated at 17:23, 1 October 2019 (UTC).

  • While the article is new enough and long enough, it is probably not yet ready for DYK. The hook fact is only mentioned in the Plot section and thus doesn't have a reference. A reference could be added since references are optional for plot sections, which might solve the issue, but a better alternative could be to instead write a Development section for the article. In addition, considering the article's relatively short length, I'm worried about the Reception section as it's pretty much mostly review quotations, meaning a significant amount of the article is copied from elsewhere. Right now I can think of two solutions: expand the article further to bring down the proportion, or to rewrite the reception section so that instead they paraphrase the reviews instead of being heavily reliant on quotes. • I have formatted the article per your comments.___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk (We are the champions, my friends) 19:43, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
It looks better now; however, the hook fact sentence remains uncited in the article, and the only cited parts in regards to it only imply it but do not directly state it. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:19, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
Narutolovehinata5, It has been sourced.___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk (We are the champions, my friends) 12:41, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
  • This article is new enough and long enough and has been improved as per the above discussion. The hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright or plagiarism issues. A QPQ is still needed. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:29, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you. This nomination is good to go. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:21, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, and did some editing on the article to align it with what the sources say. But the article is really sketchy, and that's why it's hard to come up with a good hook. (The one you have now is just repetitive.) You have more information you could add from the sources you have, especially to the Production section. The part about Alien's "mythological roots" could be an interesting hook if fleshed out more in the article. Yoninah (talk) 22:04, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
  • I agree with Yoninah that the hook is repetitive and not very interesting, since the title is practically self-explanatory. Something new should be found. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:31, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
  • Striking ALT1 as inaccurate. According to the source, Philippe was "entranced" by the Alien poster. However, in the words of the article, he was "obsessed by the mythological roots of Alien", so the article could be modified accordingly ("entranced" and "obsessed" are not at all the same thing). The article needs to be updated as well, to reflect what Philippe actually said and to properly quote the article. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:21, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
ALT2: ... that while promoting his 2019 documentary film based on Alien, director Alexandre O. Philippe credited Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion for "getting him excited about exploring the film"?
BlueMoonset maybe this could work?~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 12:52, 15 November 2019 (UTC)
ALT3: ... that the 2019 documentary Memory: The Origins of Alien explores the idea that film is a collective art form relying not only on writers, performers and technicians, but serendipitous access to a deeper collective unconscious? Thoughts? BlueMoonset CAPTAIN MEDUSA --evrik (talk) 17:27, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
  • CAPTAIN MEDUSA, ALT2 is a bit too long and might be able to work if recast and its quote is rendered accurately. ALT3 is far too long, and is a copyvio as it uses quoted material without quote marks, so I've struck it. It's important that you be very careful about the accuracy and crediting of quotes. Here's an ALT2a:
This may not be ideal, but at 190 characters, it's under the 200 maximum (ALT2 was 209 in total). I'd be interested in hearing whether Yoninah thinks this is a better approach, or if there's something else needed here. (There hasn't been any new material added about the film itself, as Yoninah had recommended.) BlueMoonset (talk) 19:48, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT3a: ... that Memory: The Origins of Alien explores film as a collective art form relying on its creators and "serendipitous access to a deeper collective unconscious?"

I added a little bit of content since the last review to the article. I redid 3. It's 230 characters, but really is the most interesting hook. --evrik (talk) 20:20, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

  • @Evrik: a hook with so many multisyllabic words is virtually unreadable. I'll try to look at this in a few days. Yoninah (talk) 22:32, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: - the long words are part of the quote. I think it's the best hook. --evrik (talk) 15:27, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

  • Trimmed the hook length. Yoninah (talk) 20:46, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
  • Alt 4 or 4a, for the win. --evrik (talk) 20:15, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
