Ruschi's rat[edit]

  • ... that Ruschi's rat has fine hairs mixed with flattened, grooved spines?

5x expanded by Cwmhiraeth (talk). Self-nominated at 06:05, 4 May 2017 (UTC).

  • 5x expansion confirmed. No close paraphrasing evident. In Mammals of South America, it gives it the common name of Ruschi's Spiny Mouse, but this isn't mentioned as an alternative name in the article. Otherwise all looks OK. AGF on offline source. Simon Burchell (talk) 11:50, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. I have added the alternative common name. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:08, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
  • I couldn't verify the hook from the given source. Gatoclass (talk) 11:29, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
  • @Gatoclass: I had the page numbers for the citation as 74-75 and it should have been 73-75. I have changed this. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:26, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. The hook does not seem quite accurate to me, as there is no mention specifically of "fine" hairs and the source doesn't really say they are "mixed" together. Why not just say the animal has dorsal and ventral spines or something? Gatoclass (talk) 13:51, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
  • The hairs and spines are obviously mixes because it says "The body pelage is short and close with a moderately spiny texture." How about
  • ALT1 ... that the fur of Ruschi's rat is a mixture of ordinary hairs and flattened, black-tipped spines? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:21, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Gatoclass, does ALT1 satisfy your concerns? (I've struck the original hook due to the issues you raised.) BlueMoonset (talk) 16:15, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Yes, it's fine BlueMoonset, it's just that I was toying with the idea of proposing a more eye-catching hook, but if you want to re-promote this one, feel free to do so. Gatoclass (talk) 15:21, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Gatoclass, I wasn't looking to promote anything; I was working on one of my lists of old, unreviewed noms, and didn't want to list this one if the ALT also had issues. At this point, I can either list it there or you can give it a new tick. I don't have time to do any set-building, I'm afraid. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:45, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Nomination needs someone to recheck the new hook and give it a tick. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:03, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
