use of Cite Web template[edit]

This template uses a reference with a raw external link. I've converted that reference to use {{cite web}}. WP:CITEVAR doesn't apply because there's only one reference in this template, so there's no established status quo with which the reference should be consistent. We can consider the articles where the template used, as there are only two. Both use the {{cite web}} template for all of their references. As such, the inclusion of the template with the raw reference definition is more inconsistent than it would be without the {{cite web}} definition than it is with that definition. -- Mikeblas (talk) 17:05, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but WP:CITEVAR says you go with the original form. One of the two articles that uses the template doesn't use a single cite web template. It has, currently, 71 references on it and will have more once narrative sections have been written. The other article has 4 references two of which are tables. It makes no difference to how the reference displays (if it's done properly) and with articles with many references there is a technical case for not using templates as they increase page load times. I'll switch the reference back, add another reference (the BBC one will be out of date as they reuse the page each year) and switch the style to the more normal form for the site name. I'll also remove the dates as if you add dates those become inconsistent on the two articles and that should almost certainly be avoided. Blue Square Thing (talk) 00:06, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
