Can this template be altered so it continues to transclude to pages it is linked from but...[edit]

doesn't transclude to pages that transclude the page it is on?

...modify the template once rather than add <noinclude> tags around it on each of the 50 or so pages it appears on, if you see what I mean...

Thanks Trev M (talk) 13:08, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying that when the template is transcluded in an article, you'd like to see the link to that article removed from the transclusion? --Mysdaao talk 13:54, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The pages with the template in are going to stand alone for a while, and the template should appear in them; however, I'm transcluding those articles or sections of them into another page as sections, as most are stubs; this means the template appears many times; would be good to just stop it appearing by an edit to the template itself rather than every article with it in. No, there isn't any way I know of to do that just by editing the template. What you're doing is a partial transclusion, which is what is described at Wikipedia:Transclusion#Partial transclusion, and it lists the only way to do that in an article which is to use "noinclude", "onlyinclude" and "includeonly" tags on the articles being transcluded. This is a major reason partial transclusion isn't used often with articles. Usually merges are done following the steps at Wikipedia:Merging. --Mysdaao talk 18:36, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
