Convert to conventional format?[edit]

This template is a bit of a mess at present, with a lot of redlinks, some bluelinks, and some redirects to: List of Afghans#Media people (including actors and film directors), List of Khmer film actors, List of Egyptians#Actors, List of Indian film actors, List of Singaporeans and List of Sri Lankan actors and actresses. If there are no objections, I will convert it to a conventional format, which can handle sub-lists like • Cambodian (film) • South Korean (male, female). Should it have redlinks? Relevant quote from WP:REDNO: Red links may be used on navigation templates with links to existing articles, but they cannot be excessive. Editors who add excessive red links to navboxes are expected to actively work on building those articles, or they may be removed from the template.
I don't have a strong opinion on this case. One sensible policy could be to only create redlinks if a corresponding populated category exists under Category:Film actors by nationality, since that suggests that the article could/should exist. Colin M (talk) 18:55, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:Cattus, who started the template in December 2014, has not edited for over a year. It would be easy enough to create more list pages by cut-and-paste from, e.g. Category:Kazakhstani film actresses, but I doubt that anyone would maintain lists like that, and cannot see what value they would serve. For the lists to be useful they have to give some information like genres, medium, years of activity etc. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:02, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone ahead and converted the template to conventional form, blue links only. It turns out the auto-generated list was missing a fair number of entries. Some countries have separate lists for actors/actresses, some for film actors, India for languages too. This structure can handle the variants. Aymatth2 (talk) 13:46, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
