Errors in rankings[edit]

Croatia are shown as above Wales but the BBC shows them as the reverse. Tiebreakers are applied between teams that have played, Wales have an away goal to Croatia and therefore should be above. The rankings need to be checked in all groups 2A02:C7C:BD0A:4300:2DEC:EF62:1839:227E (talk) 23:48, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Goal difference is used before away goals. Check the official UEFA tiebreakers. If BBC shows it the other way they are incorrect. Mwiqdoh (talk) 04:46, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Group A (Norway and Georgia are swapped) and Group D (Croatia and Wales) are wrong ! Please check https://www.uefa.com/european-qualifiers/standings/#grp-2006665 : this is the official rankings from UEFA ! And UEFA cannot be wrong !!! Pindrice (talk) 09:11, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pindrice: Well the same UEFA has these regulations (See Article 15) as the official tiebreakers. Mwiqdoh (talk) 11:38, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We have a source for that official rankings : do you have a contraditory source ? No ? So stop reverting and keep the official rankings Pindrice (talk) 11:56, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not a place where you do you own stuff in your corner ! We use official reference and Source : if UEFA stipulates that it is the rankings, then their rankings is offical not yours !! Pindrice (talk) 11:57, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Plus can you just admit that your interpretation of the rules of the tiebreakers are wrong ! Pindrice (talk) 11:58, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We must use their rankings because it is the official one, not yours ! Pindrice (talk) 12:01, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pindrice: I literally just gave you the official regulations published by UEFA! Mwiqdoh (talk) 12:12, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I gave you the official rankings given by UEFA, you must be wrong somewhere about the interpretation of their rules. Pindrice (talk) 12:13, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Data/figures/charts are fact. Rules can be well or wrongly interpreted. Pindrice (talk) 12:21, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mwiqdoh: Do you want to update the Overall Ranking ?
Pindrice (talk) 13:19, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I'm doing so right now. Mwiqdoh (talk) 13:21, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, great.
I think we can erase this section (in this talk page) after that. Pindrice (talk) 13:24, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure I don't mind. Thank you for being so civil. Mwiqdoh (talk) 13:26, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies. We were both wrong and right. Pindrice (talk) 13:29, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

X[edit]

"If cannot qualify directly, will advance to play-offs via Nations League", what does that even mean? Anyone able to explain, why some teams have this. -Koppapa (talk) 15:17, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Since they have finished 1st place in their groups in the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League, if they fail to qualify to the tournament by finishing in the top 2, they still have a chance to qualify by advancing to the play-off round. Mwiqdoh (talk) 16:33, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
it's wrong english tho. Oberyn42 (talk) 22:52, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Malta Elimination[edit]

I believe Malta is not yet eliminated (as of 9/12/23), but several other users keep marking them as such. Here's my reasoning for how they all can still end up on 9 points:

Malta 0 -> 9 points. Beats England, Italy, Ukraine for 9 points

Italy: 7 -> 9 points. Draws Ukraine, MKD and loses to England, Malta for 9 points

Ukraine: 7 -> 9 points. Draws Italy, MKD and loses to Malta

MKD: 7 -> 9 points. Draws Italy, Ukraine and loses to England

With all four teams on 9 points, the first tiebreaker is GD between these teams, which Malta can theoretically still win.

Tiebreakers for group ranking:
If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:
1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches played among the teams in question;
2. Superior goal difference in matches played among the teams in question;
3. Higher number of goals scored in the matches played among the teams in question; 91.22.255.144 (talk) 22:37, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. Thank you. Werepancake (talk) 22:43, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Faroe Island can still qualify directly[edit]

They can qualify directly if:

  • FA beats everything; Albania beats all but FA
  • Poland beats Moldova
  • Poland - Czech and Czech - Moldova are ties.

This way, FA has more points than Moldova. It has equal points as Czech and Poland, but it can still have a head to head advantage to these two. 109.38.136.55 (talk) 06:50, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CZE will have 7 points on Head2Head then, Faroe only 6. So they can't win that three-way tie. -Koppapa (talk) 07:18, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. Thanks. 109.38.136.55 (talk) 07:19, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
