McDonald Emiantor, best known by his stage name Traidmarc, is a Nigerian-Australian rapper, singer, songwriter, television producer, and business executive.[1][2] He is the founder of Annex Media.[3]

Traidmarc has also worked as executive producer of Industry Leaders TV show.[2]

Life and career[edit]

Traidmarc was born as McDonald Emiantor in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.[4][1] His mother, who is a teacher by profession, raised him alone along with his seven siblings.[5][6]

In 1999, Traidmarc's family relocated to London, United Kingdom.[6] He grew up and spent his early life in Blackheath, London, where he learnt his art.[7]

In 2000, he faced a difficult time when his car crashed and was subsequently hospitalized for significant injuries.[7] In fact, he was pronounced as a dead person when his heart beat stopped for a brief period.[7] This was a life-changing moment in Traidmarc's life and in his view he was reborn at that time.[7] He soon recovered from the injuries occurred due to car crash, but the difficult time continued.[7] At one point, he became broke when his bank account was overdrawn by twenty-dollars.[7]

In 2007, Traidmarc founded Annex Media in the United Kingdom.[8]

In 2009, Traidmarc emigrated to Australia.[7] Once he settled in Australia, he resumed his education and was studying to obtain a degree in media which he completed in 2014.[7]

In 2011, his fame started when he released his first single, "Come Dance With Me", which became a major hit within a day.[7][9] His popularity further increased when he released his single "Got My Eyes On You" in 2013.[9] As a musician, he is influenced by Tupac Amaru Shakur.[1][4]

Traidmarc appeared on 2SER radio station on Monday, August 31st, 2020, for an interview conducted by Brenda Alvarado. This discussion highlighted Traidmarc's experience navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and his journey towards independent music production. More insights into the interview can be found in the article "Independent Creativity: An Interview with Musician Traidmarc" on 2SER's website.[10]

In October 2020, the artist released a song titled "End SARS"[11][12] in response to the #EndSARS movement, which gained significant momentum. The #EndSARS movement, which began intensifying on October 8, 2020, sought to protest against police brutality in Nigeria,[13] specifically targeting the human rights violations committed by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian police force assigned to combat violent crimes. Thousands of Nigerians participated in peaceful demonstrations across the country, advocating for good governance and an end to police brutality.

Despite the peaceful nature of the protests, at least 56 civilians lost their lives[14] due to excessive force used by security forces or actions by alleged government-hired agents to quell the demonstrations. The movement, which initially started in late 2017 by human rights defenders and activists, drew global attention through various social media platforms, where numerous accounts of abuses by SARS officers were shared.[14]

In December 2020, Traidmarc's studio album, The Epilog, was released, containing twenty-four tracks, which is based on his entire life.[4]

In March 2022, his new album, SUCCESS (The Best Revenge), was released.[7]

In April 2024, Traidmarc released his highly anticipated album titled "Slept Broke Woke Up Rich." Comprising 20 tracks, the album explores themes of resilience, ambition, and self-discovery, drawing inspiration from Traidmarc's personal experiences and observations of society.[15]

Traidmarc’s latest album draws heavily on the vibrant and dynamic cultural landscape of Melbourne, seamlessly integrating the robust American influences from his early years. This blend is evident in every beat and rhythm, enriching the album’s overall authenticity and broadening its appeal.[16]

Each track in “Slept Broke Woke Up Rich” is a narrative chapter, woven together by Traidmarc’s unique ability to blend his entrepreneurial insight with his musical talent. [17]The release of "Slept Broke Woke Up Rich" marks a significant milestone in Traidmarc's career, showcasing his artistic evolution and commitment to pushing the boundaries of his craft. As the album continues to garner attention, Traidmarc remains focused on connecting with his audience and sharing his unique perspective through his music.[18]
