India now have 28 states and 9 UT(Union territory) Previously it was 29 states and 7 UTs. On 5th August 2019 BJP Govt lead by Shri Narendra Modi and President Shri Ramnath Kovind removed article 370 and 35A from the state Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Now J&K divides between two UTs. One is Jammu & Kashmir and other one is Laddhak.
