Ahmed Kadi Amshi (born 9 May 1954) is a renowned Engineer, Technocrat and an astute Administrator in Nigeria, who serves as the Executive Chairman of National Assembly Service Commission (NASC). He was inaugurated as the Executive Chairman of NASC on the 26th of February 2020 by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ahmed Kadi Amshi is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers as well as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has numerous laurels to his name, both academic and professional.

Family[edit]

Ahmed Kadi Amshi was born into the family of Isa Kadi on 9 May 1954 at Amshi town in Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State. Amshi is married with a number of children and grand-children.

Education[edit]

Ahmed Amshi was educated at Amshi primary School, in the present day Yobe State in 1961 to 1966. He attended Government Craft School Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria from 1967 to 1969, where he obtained Secondary III Certificate and Government Technical Training School, Kano State, Nigeria from 1970 to 1972 and obtained CITY & GUILDS/Craft Training Certificate. He also attended Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State, Nigeria from 1975-1978 and 1980-1982, where he obtained both his OND and HND Certificates in Mechanical Engineering. Here, he won the Chairman's Prize as the Best Graduating Student in the College of Science and Technology, Kaduna Polytechnic, 1982.

Thereafter, he studied for his undergraduate degree at the University of Maiduguri between 1986 - 1989, where he obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Here, he won the Dean's Prize as the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering. In 1994, he attended the University of Maiduguri, where he obtained a Master degree in Public Administration (MPA).

In 1991, he attended a professional training course at the Administration Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagary where he was awarded a certificate in Maintenance Management; he also attended a professional training course at the Thames Valley University whereon he was awarded a certificate in Management Development and Good Governance in 2007.

Early career[edit]

Ahmed Kadi Amshi had a successful career in Borno State, and later Yobe State Civil Service, where he held responsibilities in Urban and Rural Infrastructure Development and Management, peaking as a Permanent Secretary. After his retirement from the Civil Service, he served as a Local Expert on Design of Water Supply and Sanitation Facilities with EU-WSSSRP in 2008. Thereafter, he served as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Society of Engineers from 2009 to 2014.

Ahmed Kadi Amshi also served, from 2017 to 2019, as the Chief of Staff to the then Leader of the Senate, Sen. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, PhD, CON, who is now the President of the Nigerian Senate.

He has a firm of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Consultancy where he is mentoring young Engineers. Engr Amshi is currently the Executive Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.[1]

Political career[edit]

Ahmed Kadi Amshi was inagurated as the Executive Chairman of NASC on the 26th of February 2020 by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.[2]

  • Dean's Prize as the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Maiduguri 1988/1989 session.
  • Chairman's Prize as the Best Graduating Student in the College of Science and Technology, Kaduna Polytechnic, 1982.
  • Award of Ambassador of Peace by the Global Peace Festival Foundation, an Affiliate of the Universal Peace Federation
  • Various awards by the Nigerian Society of Engineers at Branch and National levels
  • Various community awards
