The insurgency in Tripura is a neutralized armed conflict between India and a group of seperatist rebels which was taking place in the state of Tripura. The insurgency in Tripura is a part of wider Insurgency in Northeast India and was fueled after a long neglect of the Indian government's towards Tripura.
Background[edit]
The state of Tripura was merged within India in 1949. After 1949, Bangladeshis had started migrating in Tripura making indigenous Tripuris minorities in their own state who used compromise more than 85% population of the whole state.
This was the reason which had given the rise of national consciousness among local Tripuri populations. This later led to a direct confrontation between Indian nationalism and newly created Tripuri nationalism. The parallel rise of nationalism in other states of northeast further complicated the situation, led to the formation of armed rebel groups.
The first miltant outfit to emerge was Tripura National Volunteers (TNV). However, the most prominent ones were National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
A conflict of interest soon led to a split of NLFT into NLFT(B) and NLFT(N). ATTF who used to be a right wing armed organisation of NLFT had developed itself into it's own organisation. NLFT had struggled for an independent Tripura and ATTF had struggled for an autonomous Tripura by finalising Tripura merger agreement.
The arrests of Biswamohan Debbarma, Nayanbasi Jamatia and Ranjit Debbarma in Bangladesh were a major blow against them. However, it is thought that those groups still continue to operate in Bangladesh.
