UBCO Charles E. Fipke Centre[edit]

The Charles E. Fipke Centre for Innovation and Research is a prominent space for instructors and students to study, conduct research, labs, and lectures.

The UBC Okanagan Charles E. Fipke Centre for Innovative Research is a prominent building on the Okanagan campus, covering 70,000 square feet for teaching and research. The building complies with the Five Green Globes and LEED Platinum standards for the utilization of geo-exchange technology.[1]

Charles E. Fipke[edit]

Charles E. Fipke was born in 1946 in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated from the University of British Columbia, Okanagan with a Bachelors of Science degree in geology in 1970. He received an honorary doctorate from Okanagan University College. He also received several honors such as PDAC's Prospector of the Year. The Northern Miner's Mining Man of the Year, both in 1992. After his graduation, Fipke worked for companies like Kennecott Copper and Cominco, performing mineral explorations in locations such as Papua New Guinea, South Africa, and Brazil.

In 2006, Fipke donated CAD 6,000,000 to UBC to support the Charles Fipke Centre for Innovative Research. In 2012, the Fipke Laboratory for Trace Element Research opened, with Fipke funding the purchase of imaging equipment that included a scanning electron microscope. "To graduate excellent scientists, a university needs to have the best technology available," expressed Fipke. "My goal is to help UBC's Okanagan campus reach the leading edges of science, to recruit the top students and faculty from around the world." He has additionally contributed considerably to Alzheimer's research at UBC.

UBC Okanagan[edit]

UBC Okanagan is located in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. The university has 62 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs. UBC Okanagan has a widespread 70,000 square ft. space for teaching and research in the southern interior of the province, in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley and is home to over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students from all over the world.

Around the early 2000’s, the Ministry backgrounder released that  UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan will be affiliated "based on the highly successful University of California model."
