About User:Backwardlook[edit]

I am new to Wikipedia editing. My user name reflects my interest in history.

Wikipedia expertise, or more appropriately, the lack thereof[edit]

Although highly appreciative of the detailed and accurate instructions Wikipedia provides to its editors, I likely will never invest the time it would to read and digest more than the minimal necessary fraction of the massive quantity of instructions that are available. Comments by other editors about my errors are therefore welcome. I am grateful to Wikipedia for supplying editing templates and bots that automatically catch Wikipedia editing errors.

I've edited 4 or 5 Wikipedia pages so far. I corrected glaring errors in most of them. For example, one Wikipedia page formerly mentioned bats that build nests and raise their young in trees. I removed the names of a successful businessman's living family members from one page to protect them from becoming targets of con artists. Most recently I have been expanding a page with an incomplete list on it.

Pages created[edit]

  • I created this user page in response to a message from a bot implying it is at least desirable if not necessary.
  • I created the page J. Hampden Porter primarily in hopes that other editors will help build it by adding information. I have referenced Porter's work in some non-Wikipedia writing, but am interested in learning more about Porter's background and in particular, his credentials. My key question about Porter is, "How authoritative is Porter's published opinion on the topic that has my interest?"
