AMIT KUMAR CHOUBEY


Amit Kumar Choubey better known as Amit Choubey is a Indian social entrepreneur, politician, researcher and motivational speaker belonging to the Aam Admi Party. Amit is a development professional & technocrat turned politician.He is among 100 social entrepreneurs of India as per Action for India (AFI). His social forestry model was recognized by Equator initiative , UNDP.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Amit was born to a primary school teacher Harendra Choubey, and Geeta Choubey in Village Ijra Nawada,Police station: Govindganj District East Champaran in the State of Bihar. Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran Satyagraha became a deep influence on a young Amit as he walked to the one room village school and sat on the ground. Amit obtained a B Tech.degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from [[Dr. M.G.R.Educational and Research Institute]][1]in Chennai, State of Tamil Nadu.Later he earned his master's degree in Governance and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, United Kingdom.[2]

Innovation and Research[edit]

Amit excelled at Dr. M.G.R. Institute travelling to China, Jordan, USA presenting papers at various conferences during his time as an engineering undergraduate.His first brush with international ventures began in 2005-2006 when he pursued an internship at FXXXC, Beijing, China.[3].[4]. As a third year undergraduate student, Amit along with his classmate Ravi Raushan demonstrated improved technology for data acquisition systems for image processing, motion control and radar imagery.[5].They used field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), which are faster, more reliable and less power consuming than any other data acquisition system, especially for processing images.Their research found wide acceptance.[6]. The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), USA invited Amit to present a paper at a symposium on `Optics and Photonics'.Amit's paper explored data acquisition systems using reprogrammable platforms.[7]

Social Entrepreneurship[edit]

Amit founded SANMAT in 2007 in Chennai to empower the disadvantaged communities and bring good change in lives of people through innovative intervention at policy level as well as as grass root.[8]. SANMAT partners with the United Nations (UN) initiative Social Forestry : Planting 300 Million Trees Every Year.[9]. The social forestry initiative aims to at the plantation of 20,000 plants in 1600 Panchayats each year for five years by providing components like water trolleys, bamboo fencing, vermi compost and earthen pots. Aimed at influencing the lives of one crore people in next five years, Sanmat is also credited for provided training on plantation and nursery keeping and planting more than one million saplings for the Government of Bihar.[10] PCF, FDS, Banka Silk, Devlabs-Mart and Bihar Social Entrepreneurs Association are his serial entrepreneurial initiatives.[11]. Amit also served as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Consultant for the States of Bihar-Jharkhand[12] with the Asian Development Research Institute, Patna and was instrumental in launching a course to train CSR professionals.[13]

Political Work[edit]

After completing his masters in Governance and Development in 2010 at the Institute of Development Studies,University of Sussex, United Kingdom Amit has actively participated in raising awareness for human rights; for example, leading seminars on human rights violation, organising peace marches, and fundraising. He has also worked tirelessly to champion the right to education for the underprivileged and marginalised classes in Indian society; over the last three years, over 25,000 such students have been enabled to join higher education colleges in Bihar which of course has benefited the wider community.[1] He is also known for his work as a state level trainer for Mahadalit Mission of Bihar government for implementing projects at the grassroot level.[2]

2014 General Elections[edit]

Amit contested on an Aam Admi Party (AAP) ticket from East Champaran parliamentary constituency.[3].

During the Delhi Legislative Assembly election, 2015, he served as the in-charge of the Delhi Call Campaign - a tele door-to-door campaign which culminated in successfully electing Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government.[14]

  10. Amit also serves the University of Sussex as a Counsul for India.[22]
