Rockford FC is a semi-professional men's soccer club and nonprofit organization based out of Rockford, Illinois. The team currently competes in the Midwest Premier League, and plays home games at Wedgbury Stadium at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two in Loves Park, Illinois.[1]

History[edit]

Rockford FC was founded in 2019 by Samir Romero, who is also the boy's soccer head coach at Rockford Lutheran High School. The RFC Board of Directors is made up of area leaders looking to build the community up through soccer.[2]

On January 30, 2020, the club announced that it would be joining the newly-formed Midwest Premier League.[3]

On February 17, 2020, RFC named Brett Suhayda, who is also the head coach at Waubonsee Community College, as the first head coach in team history.[4]

On March 25, 2020, Rockford FC and the MWPL announced that the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]

On September 3, 2020, Rockford FC and the MWPL announced a new partnership with the National Independent Soccer Association.[6]
