- On October 4, 1975, a chartered 310Q carrying wrestlers Bob Bruggers, Ric Flair, Johnny Valentine and Tim Woods, along with promoter David Crockett and the pilot, crashed on final approach to New Hanover County Airport hours before a scheduled professional wrestling match in nearby Wilmington, North Carolina. Bruggers and Flair were seriously injured but later recovered, while Valentine was paralyzed, and the pilot subsequently died of his injuries. The aircraft was badly overloaded and its center of gravity was beyond the aft limit; in an effort to mitigate the situation, the pilot drained fuel before the flight, causing both engines to fail from fuel exhaustion on approach.[1][2][3]
