            • Replying to User:Bubba73:
              • MOVING articles in Draft space that are already submitted to AFC, argh, I thought it would be easy, but it's not, so I suggest you just skip any of these. The one example currently is Draft:Hillcrest (Cochran, Georgia). That's an article which I already submitted to Articles For Creation. You or I or anyone can be an AFC reviewer, but it is recommended that one install an "AFC helper script" which allows a reviewer to "Accept" or put on "Hold" or "Reject" a submitted article. It also updates their tracking systems and places notices at User talk pages where appropriate. I have the script installed, but I can't get it to run. And I am fairly well familiar with AFC processes. I'll let you know later if/when I get the script to work.
                • Update: I figured out how to [start to] run the script. If you have it installed in your preferences per Helper script instructions (which I have just edited for clarity on this), and if you are on a page that has been submitted to AFC, then you can run it. At top options "Read", "Edit source", "View history", "More", select "More" and underneath that then "Review (AFCH)". Select "Accept" or "Decline" or "Comment". [There may be more steps required after that, I don't know.] --doncram 18:06, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
              • MOVING other articles in Draft space, if you judge the page is ready for mainspace, you (but not I) can just move it there. (Your top-level Wikipedia options at top of your page are "Read", "Edit source", "View history". "Move" is right there too, or it is hidden from view and available under "More", instead. Select "Move". Select "(article)" space rather than "Draft" space for the article. Enter a reason like "with NRHP reference and new content, this is ready for mainspace" or briefer. Hit "Move". The default is to move any corresponding Talk page, if it exists, which is good. I myself am not allowed to move any new NRHP articles to mainspace currently, due to an edit restriction (which I will appeal sometime soon). Also delete the extra notice "This article is in the process of an expansion or major restructuring...." etc. that no longer apply. When you move one to mainspace, you are taking responsibility for it being a valid article. When I have finished any more to my satisfaction, I will mark them above for your attention. --doncram 17:28, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
How to see all of Candleabracadabra's subpages (which are mostly articles moved from Mainspace that we can restore)
There are more Georgia articles among subpages of Candleabracadabra's User space. I couldn't remember how to get subpages and was finding them by a more cumbersome approach, but I just figured it out again: at the "Tools" available to me (listed over in left margin of my screen), one of the Tools available is "Subpages". Select that, enter "Candleabracadabra" and select "User" space, then hit "Show" to get list of all of them. Here are the results with "Candleabracadabra" and "User" selected, currently including items like User:Candleabracadabra/Liberty Hall (Americus, Georgia) and User:Candleabracadabra/Allen Mercantile Company. There are redirects left behind for all the ones listed above which I recently moved to Draft space for us to work on. Redirects are italicized, e.g. User:Candleabracadabra/Hillcrest (Cochran, Georgia), which currently redirects to Draft:Hillcrest (Cochran, Georgia).     • Thanks for expanding that. However, Bubba73, in any future articles, would you please MOVE the article started by Candleabracadabra (from their user space or from draft space, per MOVING instructions above ), rather than cutting and pasting the information to a new article. The main issue is that a "cut-and-paste move" does not move the edit history. The contributions by Candleabracadabra and others who edited the articles (adding categories, etc.) should be credited. I feel kinda strongly about this; I am motivated in my editing on these largely to resurrect and credit the contributions in advance of anyone creating new articles for these topics. Another issue is that a "cut-and-paste move" leaves the original article stranded in User or Draft space, cluttering those spaces and making it unclear which article topics there are "done". An example that was handled as I prefer is Hillcrest (Cochran, Georgia), which was moved by an AFC editor to mainspace; it has edit history reflecting Candleabracadabera's and three other editors' contributions, before my and your contributions. (Thanks also for the picture you added to the Hillcrest article, which helps immeasurably!) --doncram 10:15, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

  • @Bubba73:, I think we're making great progress, i.e. steady progress in a big set of articles. Hey, when you edit to expand an article using info from the NRHP document, as you did here in the Ludowici Well Pavilion article, could you please use "inline citations", i.e. in that case just add <ref name=nrhpdoc/> (note the "/" in that when you are invoking a reference already named "nrhpdoc") at the end of any sentence inserted or the end of any paragraph wholly based on the document (because I have given name "nrhpdoc" like I usually do, for the name of the NRHP reference in the article). Because when you've added to other articles, I haven't known whether you were using personal knowledge or not, and nor will other editors later. It is a big pain later to try to further develop an article when it is not clear where each piece of information came from. And, the article is likely to attract {{refimprove}} or similar negative tags. I am not perfect in doing this myself, but I am trying. It would be fair if you pointed out where I should do better, too.  :)
  • Anyhow, do let's keep going, I am finding this interesting to learn about Georgia. I am glad I have visited Savannah and Tybee Island and driven along the coast. Also I have spent some more time in small towns in South Carolina, and I am visualizing the Georgia historic districts to be like those.     • I haven't really learned how to us the same reference in more than one place. I need to make myself an example. I think that everything I've added is from the NRHP form, with the minor exception with the Bacon-Fraser House, when I said that the house is far back from the street with a marker near the street. Okay, right, thanks! I see that User:Candleabracadabra/Old Camden County Courthouse is about the same building, with the same NRIS reference number, despite the fact the photos almost make them appear different. The Candleabracadabra one has some info that can be merged (a reference, at least).

It is discouraging, on the other hand, if I visit an article, say perhaps to expand the NRHP nomination document reference, and find text which might be based on anything or nothing. Georgia counties being visited[edit]

User:Bubba73, you mentioned at wt:NRHP that there often are few individual NRHP articles for Georgia counties that you are visiting and fixing up coordinates for, among other things. Which counties are in your plans for visits? Besides continuing to salvage Candleabracadabra's articles (scattered across the state, probably), I have been creating articles for counties in a swath across northern Georgia, but would be happy to redirect my energy to making articles where they're more immediately useful. --doncram 02:42, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Last weekend (on a trip) I got one needed photo in Cobb county, four or five in Jones county, one in Wilkinson county, and one in Twiggs county. (My daughter is now going to school in Cobb county, so there are a few more there I intend to get sometime.) I'm planning to get photos for the rest of McIntosh county soon. Baldwin county needs a few - I had been planning to go there, but the missing ones may not be accessible (I haven't checked that out). And Jenkins county and Bulloch county are not too far and both need a few photos. Also, I had in mind a dedicated trip in southwest Georgia, doing the counties on the border east to west and then the next higher row of counties west to east. But I think that will be too much. Now I have in mind doing Thomas county and the neighboring Brooks and Grady counties. I don't think I want to spend more than one night on the road doing it, so that might be doable, spending only one night. There are also a lot of photos needed in Muscogee county, but that is even a longer drive. I look for blue or blueish counties in the photo progress, but the other day I wrote a program to list the counties that need the most photos. I also like to get better photos. Jones County Courthouse (Gray, Georgia) had only a terrible photo, so I got several better ones a few days ago. Most of the counties I've photographed are at User:Bubba73#Historic_places. To start, in McIntosh County, i created Hog Hammock Historic District article (mainly material split out of Sapelo Island article), which currently lacks coordinates and lacks photos. I wonder if it is a bigger problem that most of the existing articles lack NRHP nomination document references and development based on them. The ones w/o photos in McIntosh county are all on Sapelo Island, which you have to reach by ferry. You also have to take the group tour or a personal tour to go there. I took the group tour a year or so ago, but it didn't go to all of the sites. I'm planning to take a personal tour before it gets too hot. I doubt that I will get to all of the things I listed above. So far, everything I've photographed is either while on a trip or somewhere I went for the day to get photos. You sure have photographed a lot. Maybe with special request on a personal tour you can really get to all the places on Sapelo Island, it sounds like they are well spread out though. I have made it through #1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 out of McIntosh County's 11 listings (failing to find NRHP nom doc for one of those, leaving a "citation needed" tag for unsourced content in it, which perhaps you could easily attribute to one of the webpage sources and remove the tag). I got your thanks note, am glad you liked mention of exactly where the Behavior Cemetery is, based on map in the added NRHP doc. By the way it would be neat if you could find where D'Antignac House was and photograph what's there now, as part of a morality tale at the article, given sneaky demolition and false promise to preserve. It's easier said than done to create new articles and/or to add NRHP nomination documents and develop existing articles, for these counties. I'll finish out McIntosh probably but I don't think i can possibly catch up or stay ahead of your visits. One of the articles linked to in the article about the house has a photo taken by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Georgia's copyright policy is essentially the same as the federal government. I filed an OTRS about that about a month ago. When that goes throuh, we can use that photo. Devereux-Coleman House
McIntosh County done now in terms of articles existing and having NRHP nomination documents. For Baldwin County, in a different direction but you mentioned it next, it looks like most of the 6 places lacking photos would be accessible. And others could do with better photos, informed by actual NRHP info. For a place like Devereux-Coleman House, it would be good to get in and get a better picture or two or three. If that house is gated, yeah i would take a picture through the gate like that. If it is not gated, and I drove all the way there, I would walk in and knock at the door and ask if I could take pictures. In my experience that's been very well-received, and sometimes i've been invited inside, and I'd take pics or not according to what they say. If I can't get close, I can use a telephoto lens, as I did with Crestwood (Valdosta, Georgia) and some others. I've never knocked on a door or asked permission. You've done really well with your telephoto shots over water, I recall. Hmm, i would feel uncomfortable walking up a really long private drive, presumably going past a mailbox, going where no one usually walks. That would feel like trespassing. But if the mailbox is at the front door, and newspaper delivery goes there, and there's a doorbell to ring, it really is okay, IMHO. A drone? Hmm, if i were them i would think about shooting, or netting, or sending my eagle after it. I've never done it, but for the gated or long private driveway ones I wonder about sending out postcards in advance saying I would be in the area sometime in the next weeks or months and would like to take pics, could they reply by phone/text/mail whether or not it would be okay to come to their door.
I did walk in a long drive at Frogmore on Edisto Island, SC to a great old house completely out of view from the road, and no one was home, and I took pics, but I feel i shouldn't have walked in and I am uncomfortable about using the pics without permission. I am sure the mailbox would have been out at the road, and it feels like they could perceive it as invasive/unexpected if pics of their house popped up on the internet. User:Bubba73, yeah, it is creepy when people do that. I have been harangued twice that I recall by people in a vehicle (maybe both times they were pickup trucks, i am not sure) when taking pictures from a car myself, too, I think they feel braver in a car/pickup/truck. I would be happy to a) talk about freedom of panorama, which we enjoy in the U.S., and b) offer not to use a photo of a house if it is the person who owns it or lives there, even though it is within our right to photograph them and publish them.

Thomas County places[edit]

About contacting owners towards getting permission, happily Thomas County's assessor's pages are easy to use and give full map access. At main website, click on "Search Records" to get to this search page which seems to require you to know parcel number or other identifying info. At least access is free. But you can click on "Map" there to get to zoomable, clickable map which shows parcels, in satellite view. Can select option for it to show parcel numbers, but just clicking at a point brings up owner, value info about a property.

  • The Greenwood Plantation looks like one of the hard ones to get, right? Its article gives link to article from when it was for sale in 2013, with no listing price given. I just added what I think are correct coordinates to its article. If that's the right spot, then the parcel is owned by: Westchester Magnolia LLC / 329 N Broad Street / Thomasville GA 31792 / Physical Address 4340 W U S HWY 84 / Assessed Value Value $1297824. 235 acres last purchased 6/5/2015 at $1297824. Two surrounding bigger parcels are owned by Greenwood Research Foundation Inc c/o Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP / Two International Place / Boston MA 02110, both purchased 2/24/2015 at $22021175 each apparently. Westchester Magnolia LLC registration info gives Max F. Beverly as its agent. Several of the LLCs he is agent for give 137 E. JACKSON STREET in Thomas, Thomasville as their address, maybe that is where his office is. If I were there, I'd try writing to him c/o the 329 N. Broad St. address, and assuming i didn't hear back I would try stopping by his office when visiting to take pics, on the low chance that i could meet him in person and get permission to drive onto the property. Presumably he is a lawyer and/or real estate agent. Oh, here is Whitepages info: Max F Beverly, age 45-49, (229) 228-6988, 101 Plantation Dr / Thomasville GA 31792-6752. That is a residence. coordination schmordination[edit]

Hey, User:Ebyabe and User:Bubba73, do you two know each other? I notice User:Ebyabe/NRHPs_outside_FL_pix_needed#Thomas_County indicates that Ebyabe has taken pics but not yet uploaded them, for East End Historic District (Thomasville, Georgia) and some other Thomas County NRHPs. Bubba73 is planning to get over to Thomas County, mentioned above. I am all for both of you getting there and both of you uploading pics. But maybe you can coordinate in some ways, to advantage. Ebyabe, are you possibly more interested in trying to make arrangements for difficult-to-photograph places like Greenwood Plantation, mentioned above? Anyhow I will keep plugging along on starting articles. To both of you, the one request I think of, when I am working on NRHP articles in Georgia, is that I'd like for historic district articles to get a lot of photos with specific identification in the photo names, of _all_ the major buildings in small and moderate size city/town districts. When the district has 900 contributing buildings, i guess not, but still if the NRHP document lists 30 pivotal-importance ones it would be best to get all of those ones at least. If I have listed out the important buildings, please consider it a request for a photo of each one! :) When the historic district is a farm with 10 contributing buildings it's fine to have just the farmhouse and one or two main structures. But in towns/cities HDs, you can probably have access to photo from the street almost all of the buildings, and I'd like to be able to routinely create list-tables with a photo for each main property! We've never met but we've corresponded on Wikipedia. I'm planning to go to Bulloch County Saturday. Thomas County is something I plan to go to, but I don't know when. Several of the ones needed in that county are not easily accessible. Greenwood Plantation will require permission. Google street view shows a gate on its dirt road off the public road, although the gate is open. But I'm not going through it w/o permission. (I just got back from Candler and Bulloch counties.) What you are saying about HDs is a major undertaking - getting all major buildings in the HD. Sometimes there are 300 of them. I did two HDs today. If I park and walk down the street 5 blocks, taking photos, then walk back on the other side (also taking photos), that takes around a half hour. And doing HDs in cities that I'm not familiar with is not my favorote, because I don't know where the most representative buildings are, etc. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:38, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
Hey, really it is great, and i am grateful, if you get just one pic for a whole HD. But if you can have the advance info about which are the truly standout / main buildings in the HD of 300, say it is 15 or 30, then it could be awesome for you to get those ones. You have to use judgment about what makes sense to get. E.g. for West Main Street Commercial Historic District in Statesboro, for which I just created an article today, maybe today you got the premier building. You would have had to know which were the other 4 buildings, and that they were right there, which is not obvious in the NRHP document, for you to be able to decide hey in this case you can get them all fairly easily, if you are getting one. It's my fault, or the fault of all the other NRHP editors who also didn't do the work in advance, that you probably didn't know what you needed when you were on the spot.
You would have to know in advance, to plan for time to get them all, and it would mean not getting other targets on the same trip. And it would have to prove worthwhile, like I mean you would deserve getting a list-article that really does use the pics in a table, not just in a gallery in the article or in Commons. The buildings need to be individually interesting and there needs to be separate info about each one of them, for it to be worthwhile to make a table. But it has been really fun to get them all, a few times I have done it, and there are some awesome HD articles out there (Detroit Financial District is one not by me). Tybee Island Strand Cottages Historic District is one where I think all the cottages from A, B, C, ... to R are all interesting, and there was/is something to say about each of them separately. It also was very frustrating for me sometimes to arrive at an HD and not have good info about what was included. I haven't done any big photo trips for a long time, you are the man for Georgia, and however you want to do it is fine. :) But if you do manage to score all the main ones, be sure to let me know so I can try to make sure the HD article takes proper advantage, while I am free to do Georgia articles as I have been the last several months anyhow. Let me know if there are already articles where a Commons category holds a lot of pics that really should be covered in the article.

I've already added at least one to each of the Candler County NRHP and Bulloch County NRHP places I visited today. I added a bunch from two HDs in Metter in Candler County. I took several shots of everything, but I don't want to upload several photos of one thing to the county's HRHP category and I'm lazy about creating new categories. I didn't get into Statesboro much, but I did get one house that didn't have a photo. I've been to Statesboro quite a few times, but only to the more modern areas - not the historic areas. I think there are six HDs in Statesboro and they all need to be covered better. So I'm going back someday when it is cool enough to be outside that much. When I left home, I wasn't planning to go to Metter - I was planning to get three places in Bulloch County outside Statesboro and then go to Statesboro. But when I got the third one, I realized that I had time to go to Metter. Without any planning, I went to the location of the residential HD and walked down the street, taking photos of houses that looked old. While the March 3rd-dated wp:NRHPprogress currently shows 47, This Petscan report gives 48 remaining "NRIS-only" Georgia articles, as of March 10, 2017. (Probably one is not in Georgia.)

As of March 27-dated "progress", there are 31 NRIS-only ones, out of 810 articles. To get to 40 percent of state having articles requires 34 more new articles (844 total, out of 2108 listings). 56 more photos are needed to bring state to 70 percent photographed (1476 total).
