The Class is History of Chicago. This is Daniel Thompson's page for the wikipedia project for Chicago.

My project is based on the greatness of Chicago and what people can learn from being, living and growing up in Chicago. In order to get this point across, my project will be focused on superstars that erupted from chicago. Chicago has a lot of history in terms of Superstars especially from sports and music. A few familiar names would be R. Kelly, Micheal Jordan, Derrick Rose, Kanye West and Dwayne Wade. It is hard to come up in Chicago because everyone is trying to accomplish the same mission. Thus when a person does come up then they become the best. Kanye West and R. Kelly are two of the best musicians that we have today. They both started in Chicago and today there names are some of the first you hear when rap/hip hop music is brought up. Micheal Jordan is widely known for his shoes and the fact that he is the best basketball player to ever play the game. He gave Chicago several championships and today his name is still very popular. Dwayne Wade is a veteran to basketball and while he plays for Miami, he is from Chicago. He has is known as one of the best in the game and has earned Miami a championship to brag about. Derrick Rose if from, and plays for, Chicago. As a matter of fact, Derrick Rose played for the popular highschool that goes by the name of Simeon. He currently plays for the Bulls and even though this was his first year he as already stunned some people with his level of play.

All of the following people/superstars have given Chicago the reputation of having the best erupt from the area. All of the people mentioned are currently still known as some of the best when mentioned in the area that they affiliate themselves with. Thus they bring an excellent reputation to the chicago land area. Dwayne Wade grew up in Chicago and went to Marquette College. R. Kelly grew up on the south side of chicago and attended Kenwood highschool. Kanye West moved to Chicago at the age of three and attended Chicago State but later dropped out in order to pursue his music career. Dwayne Wade also grew up on the south side of Chicago yet he attended Harold L. Richards highschool. These superstars quickly gained publicity within their school as their start to have publicity in chicago. Dwayne Wade practically carried Harold L. Richards on his shoulders. The singers on the other hand, had to gain acceptance in their school before they could lift off onto being famous. Thus Chicago may be a rough city, but they love their own. Thus these superstars were able to lift off and do good things with Chicago as their stepping stone.

My point to all of this is the fact that these famous people made chicago the popular city that it is. the competition along with the fact that they grew up in the area gives Chicago a lot of the credibility and popularity that chicago has today. Currently Chicago is not the safest place to grow up in but it has a lot of talent. When this talent is allowed to grow then we produce some of the best in any category. Thus when we examine a celebrity like Kanye West who has made songs speaking on how he grew up in Chicago and how hard it was, he gives a lot of his credibility to his hometown. Also, he has had movtivation on Chicago's negative influence. His song called Jesus Walks speaks on how violence is unnecessary and that he hopes that Jesus is able to save him from some of this unneccessary violence as well as other people. Dwayne Wade can say he developed his motivation from wanting to get out of the notoriously evil hoods of Chicago. As a matter of fact with Chicago having the evil and hard ways that it does could have possibly made all of the people mentioned mentally tough to withstand what goes on after they make it where they want to be because there is still a lot to take on. Chicago may not be the savest city, but people can definetly learn a lot and take a lot from Chicago if they look at the city from the right angle. There is a lot of raw talent just lying around in Chicago and if anyone were to take a second look there would see that there are hundreds of people with the same characteristics of the celebrities displayed on TV. The only issue is that everyone cannot be number one and thus only a few get even the oppurtunity to be displayed and showcased for their magnificient talent. Yet this is only life and it is not exactly fair. Chicago is a city of talent and anyone that takes the time to look closely at Chicago will be able to see that.

CTA is an abbreviaton for the chicago transit authority. the cta is a bus route that runs through chicago. The CTA began operating on October 1, 1947, after it acquired the properties of the Chicago Rapid Transit Company and the Chicago Surface Lines. On October 1, 1952, CTA became the sole operator of Chicago transit when it purchased the Chicago Motor Coach system. (www.transitchicago.com)The cta also has trains running through chicago that take you to other bus stops etc. currently the cta cost 1 dollar to ride the cta for students with their student permit and 2.25 for adults. The cta is a very popular way to get around the city and even flows all the way into chicago. as of now they are talking about increasing the price of the cta from its current price to 2.50 cents which is a 25 cent increase from the current price. also the price of riding the L (or the train route resembling an L) will increase to 3 dollars. these price change effect are supposed to take place around the first of january.
