My ongoing effort to promote US Army units to Good Article, A-class and Featured Article status have involved a lot of work from a lot of people, but have meet with sucess thanks to extensive contributions on my part, as well as a lot of help from other wikipedians. Here are the articles that have been sucessfully promoted thanks to everyone's contributions.

I have yet to promote an article to Featured Article status, and my work on a page is never done until it is a Featured Article. It is my opinion that every US Army unit article can reach this goal eventually, and if there are any units you would like my help in improving, please let me know.

173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team

The 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team was the first article I nominated for GA status, and the second to pass. Work began on January 19, 2007. Nominated January 23, 2008 and passed March 5, 2008.

Work on this article included creating an "Organization", "Honors", "Famous Soldiers" section, adding numerous images, reorganizing and doubling the size of the history section, and adding references to all necessary material on the page, all in all, the page went from over 18,000 bytes in its original, stub-class form to over 29,000 bytes when it finally became a GA.

Thanks to Deon Steyn, who helped with the source list, Carre who helped sort out a problem with images among other things, and Jackyd101 reviewed the article harshly for GA, and after much advice and assistance, finally passed it.

This was the first article I nominated for FA status, on March 7, 2008. However, with 2 in support, 1 oppose, and numerous comments, the FAC was closed due to lack of feedback and was not sucessful. Issues preventing promotion included incorrect reference formats, technical issues, and a few grammar problems.

I nominated this article for A status on April 2, 2008. It passed with 4 in support on April 5, 2008. Thanks to Blnguyen, who performed another close copy edit in addition to adding more sources and information, and Roger Davies, Eurocopter tigre, Woody, and TomStar81, for supporting the article's promotion.

I renominated this article for FA status on April 21, 2008. However, with none in support, two opposed, and numerous comments, the FAC was failed, despite work by myself and Blnguyen to fix the article to the reviewer's satisfaction.

20th Engineer Brigade (Combat) (Airborne)

The 20th Engineer Brigade was the second article I nominated for GA status, and the first to pass. Work began on December 15, 2007. Nominated February 4, 2008 and passed February 8, 2008.

Work on this article included adding "Organization", "Honors", and "Famous Soldiers" sections, as well as a removal of some copyvio material. The history section was completely reorganized, and I added 33 references where there were previously none at all, as well as dozens of links and a few images from other articles. Article grew from 8,400 bytes in its original start-class form to over 18,000 bytes as a GA.

Thanks to Dominik92, who helped fix typos and format problems, and offered a great deal of helpful advice on how the article could be further improved. He was also the one to review and pass the article.

I nominated this article for A status on April 2, 2008. However, with numerous comments and none in support, the A was unsucessful. Issues preventing promotion included date and citation formats, and other minor nitpicks.

3rd Sustainment Brigade

The 3rd Sustainment Brigade was the fourth article I nominated for GA, and the third to pass. Work began on December 14, 2007. Nominated March 19, 2008 and passed April 1, 2008.

The article was a small stub with a few lines when I first began work on it, but since there was comparably less information on the article, working on it was significantly easier than other projects. Work on it included adding all of the infobox and images, creating the "Organization," "History," and "Honors" sections, and adding all references and external links. The article grew from just over 1,300 bytes when I first encountered it to over 8,500 bytes by the time it passed its GA.

Thanks to Jackyd101 for his GA review on the article, which was passed with no problems at all.

18th Engineer Brigade (Theater Army)

The 18th Engineer Brigade was the third article I nominated for GA, and the fourth to pass. Work began on December 15, 2007. Nominated March 19, 2008 and passed April 10, 2008.

Work on this article included a complete reorganization (It was originally a start-class article with a few disorganized paragraphs of content) which included expanding the article's history and infobox, as well as creating a lead, Organization, Honors, and Links, and notable soldiers section, as well as adding all references and all images other than the unit's SSI and DUI. Of the articles I have worked on, this one changed the most in terms of size. It grew from 3,250 byted in its original, start-class size to 21,871 bytes in its GA form; almost seven times its original size.

Thanks to Blnguyen, who gave the article an extensive copyedit at several points, and Dominik92, who reviewed it for GA and pointed out several areas for improvement before eventally passing it.

15th Sustainment Brigade

The 15th Sustainment Brigade was the sixth article I nominated for GA, and the fifth to pass. Created on December 14, 2007, nominated for GA on June 4, 2008 and passed on June 5, 2008.

I created and wrote the entire GA, essentially. It was written in my standard six-section format, with all infoboxes added and all images uploaded by me, except for one. The article ran into an unfortunate delay in its GA process, as I nominated it twice before and both times it was faled in poorly done and highly questionable GA reviews. The article went from about 750 bytes of information on the 1st Cavalry Division page to 20,900 bytes in its GA form.

174th Infantry Brigade

The 174th Infantry Brigade was the ninth article I nominated for GA, and the sixth to pass. Work began January, 2008, nominated for GA on June 29, 2008 and passed on July 3, 2008.

Work on this article included creation of the summary section, formating the organization section from a bullet point list to a full section, and organizing the history section. Originally it was simply a copy of the text from the brigade's homepage, but it was an extensive combination of information from a dozen sources. I also expanded the infobox, added the Honors and External links sections, all sources, and all images except for the unit DUI. The article went from about 3,300 bytes in its original, start-class form to over 16,900 bytes in its GA form.

42nd Military Police Brigade

The 42nd Military Police Brigade was the tenth article I nominated for GA, and the seventh to pass. It is probably the fastest article ever to reach GA, as the article became a GA only a day after being created. I began writing the article (which was a red link at the time) at around 12:00pm on July 6, 2008 and it was finished and nominated for GA in just under three hours. Almost 24 hours later, it was reviewed and put on hold, before finally passing at 5:30pm on July 7, 2008.

I created this article and wrote everything in it, applying the standard six section format to it, with all infoboxes added and all images uploaded by me, except for one. All references were found and included by me, as well. The page went from a nonexistant red link to containing almost 14,700 bytes of information as a GA.

172nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team

The 172nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team was the eighth article I nominated for GA, and the eighth to pass. Work began on April 3, 2008, nominated June 28, 2008 and passed on July 15, 2008.

Work on this article included a massive expansion of its history section; all subsections of the history area saw major expansions and improvements as I worked on the article. I uploaded several images, wikified the brigade's "organization" and "honors" section, and contributed almost three dozen sources to the article, heavily sourcing every area of it. The page went from about 10,700 bytes in its original, start-class form to 23,300 bytes as a GA.

Thanks to numerous users for minor spelling corrections and content additions, as well as Jackyd101 for reviewing it and passing it quickly with few major problems.

I nominated this article for A status on August 11, 2008. However, with three oppose votes and none in support, the A was unsucessful. Issues preventing promotion included a potential bias brought about by a large majority of the article's sources being US government resouces.

1st Sustainment Brigade

The 1st Sustainment Brigade was the seventh article I nominated for GA, and the ninth to pass. I created the page from scratch on December 14, 2007. nominated June 25, 2008 and passed on July 17, 2008.

Work on this article included everything. I built the page from the ground up, and, with the exception of a few spelling bots and minior corrections, added and organized everything on the page. 7th Infantry Division

The 7th Infantry Division was the twenty-second article I nominated for GA, and the twenty-second to pass. Work began on April 27, 2009. nominated May 4, 2009 and passed on May 7, 2009.

Work on this article included everything. I added and organized most if the information and images on the page. Most sources were found by me, however there were numerous bit contributions from other editors to the page both while I was working on it and beforehand. The page went from a 12,100 bit start class article to almost 39,900 bytes as a GA.

Methods

I apply the same structure to every unit article I work on. This is done for two reasons: first, the structure works well and is broad enough overall to cover everything important about the unit, and so it has resulted in overwhelming success in getting the articles promoted to GA status, at the least. Second, the uniform format makes the articles look very good when viewed together, particularly in an encyclopedia, and particularly when their topic is military related. This format generally includes:

  1. A lead that explains the unit's full official name, where it is headquartered, what it does, and the most important parts of its history.
  2. An infobox with as much information filled out as possible, as well as the unit's DUI and SSI, which come from the US Army Institute of Heraldry site.
  3. An "Organization" section, explaining all of the subordinate formations of the military unit, where they are located, and any special notes about the formation overall.
  4. A "History" section, which is subsectioned by major conflicts (Generally this means three sections: The "World Wars", the "Cold War conflicts" and "Modern day" operations.)
  5. An "Honors" section which lists all of the unit awards and campaign streamers that have been given to the unit.
  6. A "Legacy" section that includes all popular culture references to the unit, any famous people who served in it, any future army leaders, and any Medal of Honor recipients who served in it. For most smaller or less well known units, this section is just called "Notable Soldiers" if there are no popular culture references, or it is left out entirely if there are no notable people.
  7. A "References" section for all in-text citations.
  8. An "External Links" section for all notable external links.

Officially, my goal is to get every single unit that has been activated in the US Army to Featured Article status, however, I know this is not probable to do. Therefore, I keep track of the work I have done, and watch each of the articles listed above closely, monitoring every edit made to them, to ensure that the articles stay at maximum quality.
